THE COURSE IS CONCEIVED AS A RESEARCH SEMINAR ENHANCING PREVIOUSLY ACQUIRED SKILLS. IT IS DESIGNED TO FURTHER DEVELOP THE STUDENTS’ KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF FRENCH LITERATURE, OFFERING AN INITIATION TO RESEARCH ON A SPECIFIC THEME OR CHRONOLOGY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING -BE AWARE OF THE MAIN CRITICAL POSITIONS REGARDING THE THEMES OF THE COURSE -UNDERSTAND FRENCH LITERARY HISTORY -LEARN IN DEPTH THE MAIN AESTHETIC-LITERARY MOVEMENTS OF FRENCH MODERNITY -LEARN THE METHODOLOGIES TO ANALYSE LITERARY TEXTS, ALSO THROUGH THE STUDY OF THE CRITICAL DEBATE IN THE LITERARY AND CULTURAL FIELD APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING -CARRY OUT RESEARCH ON LITERARY THEMES -ANALYSE FROM THE PHILOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW DIFFERENT TEXTUAL FORMS (MANUSCRIPTS, DOCUMENTS, ETC.) AND REFLECT ON THEIR POSSIBLE EDITION -INDEPENDENTLY APPLY AND/OR DEVELOP CRITICAL TECHNIQUES AND APPROPRIATE METHODOLOGIES FOR THE ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEXTS MAKING JUDGEMENTS -HAVE A CRITICAL APPROACH TO PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOURCES -DEVELOP AUTONOMOUS CRITICAL DISCOURSES SUPPORTED BY THE STUDY OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOURCES COMMUNICATION SKILLS -ORGANIZE A COMPLEX DISCOURSE (BOTH WRITTEN AND ORAL) ABOUT PROBLEMS, AUTHORS AND WORKS, USING EXAMPLES FROM LITERATURE IN THE SYLLABUS THAT REINFORCE THEIR VALIDITY AND EXPLAIN THEIR COMPLEX OPERATIONS -EXPRESS, IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE, PERSONAL CONSIDERATIONS AND REFLECTIONS ON THE TOPICS ADDRESSED IN THE COURSE LEARNING SKILLS -USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND ONLINE DATABASES -CARRY OUT RESEARCH, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX LITERARY AND PARA-LITERARY TEXTS -CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF KNOWLEDGE THROUGH TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE AND THE CORRECT I.T. MORALES DE LA FICTION LITTERAIRE AU XIXE SIECLE THE COURSE ATTEMPTS, ON THE ONE HAND, TO REFLECT ON THE RELATIONS BETWEEN LITERATURE AND ETHICAL VALUES IN THE CURRENT CRITICAL DEBATE; ON THE OTHER HAND, TO MEASURE, PARTICULARLY IN THE NOVEL AND SHORT STORY OF THE 19TH CENTURY, THE DIFFERENT CHOICES MADE BY AUTHORS IN THE REPRESENTATION OF GOOD AND EVIL. FINAL ORAL TESTING IN FRENCH. ALL THE STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED FLUENCY IN THE EXPOSITION OF SPECIFIC CONCEPTS, ABILITY OF ORGANIZING A COMPLEX SPEECH ABOUT PROBLEMS, AUTHORS AND WORKS DISCUSSED IN THE COURSE AND USE DIFFERENT CRITICAL APPROACHES. THE KNOWLEDGE OF CRITICAL WORKS/ESSAYS LISTED IN THE PROGRAMME IS ALSO NEEDED. THE EVALUATION WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT : - THE QUALITY OF PRESENTATION, CORRECT USE OF APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE - THE QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF INFORMATION - THE ABILITY TO CREATE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN DIFFERENT TOPICS BOTH IN AND OUTSIDE OF THE PROGRAMME - INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT STUDENTS ACHIEVE THE MAXIMUM MARK IF THEY ARE ABLE TO DEAL WITH ORIGINAL (OR NOT EXPRESSLY DEALT WITH IN CLASS) TOPICS AND TO PRESENT THEIR CONSIDERATIONS USING EXAMPLES TAKEN FROM WORKS EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT EXPRESSLY INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAMME. THERE ARE TWO OPTIONAL PARTIAL EXAMS: A MIDTERM TEXT FOCUSING ON THE THEORETICAL ISSUES OF THE DEBATE ADDRESSED IN THIS COURSE, AND A FINAL TEXT TOWARDS THE END OF THE COURSE, FOCUSING ON TEXT ANALYSIS. STUDENTS WHO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE BOTH PARTIAL EXAMS DO NOT NEED TO TAKE THE ORAL FINAL. THE PARTIAL AND FINAL EXAMS ARE IN FRENCH. |
