Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: KNOWLEDGE OF PROCESS PLANTS AND OF SOME UNIT OPERATIONS: FLASH, EVAPORATION, DISTILLATION, ABSORPTION, HUMIDIFICATION AND COOLING, THERMAL EXCHANGE. COMPREHENSION OF SIMPLIFIED MODELS CONCERNING OPERATIVE PARAMETERS AND / OR PROJECT AND THEIR EFFECTS ON MASS AND ENERGY BALANCES. KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONCEPT OF NETWORK OF UNIT OPERATIONS AND OF SOME ELEMENTS ABOUT DESIGN DOCUMENTATION, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE PROCESS AND PLANT SPECIFICATIONS AND TO THEIR USE IN THE PROCESS SCHEME.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING - ENGINEERING ANALYSIS
COMPETENCE IN ANALYZING SIMPLES PROCESS SCHEMES TO DETERMINE DEGREES OF FREEDOM IN A PROJECT OR IN A VERIFICATION, PROJECT AND EXERCISE VARIABLES DEPENDING ON AVAILABLE DATA. CAPABILITY TO CORRECTLY GUIDE THEMSELVES IN DETERMINING THE SPECIFICATIONS OF THE SINGLE EQUIPMENT AND OF THE MOST COMMON OPERATIONAL CHOICES IN RELATION TO THE EFFECT OF A PARAMETERS MODIFICATION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE PROCESS.COMPETENCE IN IDENTIFYING, FORMULATING AND SOLVING PROBLEMS ABOUT THE STUDIED UNIT OPERATIONS TO COMPLETELY DEFINE THERMAL FLOW, MASS FLOW, STAGE NUMBER, SURFACE AREAS, OPERATIVE CONDITIONS, USING APPROPRIATE ANALYTIC METHODOLOGIES TO DESIGN AND TO VERIFY.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS IN FRONT LESSONS (60H - TAUGHT IN ENGLISH), CLASSROOM EXERCISE (48H - IN ITALIAN) AND ACTIVITIES IN LABORATORIES (12H, ABOUT 3 UNIT OPERATIONS IN CHEMICAL PLANT LABORATORIES AND 1 CALCULATIVE EXERCISES IN THE INFORMATIC LABORATORY), FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF 120 HOURS WHICH ARE WORTH 12 CREDITS.
ATTENDANCE AT THE LECTURES IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
Verification of learning
ACHIEVEMENT OF THE COURSE TARGETS IS CERTIFIED BY A WRITTEN EXAM OF 240 MINUTE; IT CONSISTS OF THREE EXERCISES ABOUT THREE DIFFERENT UNIT OPERATIONS, WITH QUESTIONS OF GROWING DIFFICULTY DEGREES. THE QUESTIONS VALUE IS A) 6 POINTS, B) 4 POINTS.
TO PASS THE EXAMINATION, IT IS NECESSARY TO FIND THE CORRECT TECHNIQUE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS AND TO CORRECTLY ANSWER TO THE FIRST QUESTIONS (A) OF ALL THE EXERCISES, OR SOLVE THE PROBLEMS AND CORRECTLY ANSWER TO THE BOTH QUESTIONS (A – B) OF TWO EXERCISES.
AN ORAL EXAMINATION OF ABOUT 30 MINUTES IS REQUIRED TO EXPLAIN ANY UNCERTAINTY ELEMETNS ABOUT THE WRITTEN EXAM AND TO VERIFY THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONCEPTS ACQUIRED DURING THE LESSONS. ORAL EXAMINATION CAN'T SUBSTITUTE THE POSITIVE RESULT OF THE WRITTEN EXAM.
THE EXCELLENCE (VOTING OF 30/30 WITH HONORS) IS OBTAINED BY CORRECT ANSWER TO ALL THE QUESTIONS OF THE EXERCISES OF WRITTEN EXAMINATION AND BY POSITIVE RESULT OF ORAL EXAMINATION, IN WHICH THE STUDENTS SHOWS THE CAPABILITY OF USING THE INFORMATION ACQUIRED DURING THE COURSE AND OF APPLYING THEM TO UNUSUAL PROBLEMS.
