OVERALL OBJECTIVE THE COURSE HAS THE OVERALL OBJECTIVE TO PROVIDE THE STUDENTS WITH LECTURE, KNOWLEDGE AND HISTORICAL-LINGUISTIC CONTEXTUALIZATION OF CLASSICAL ENGLISH-WRITTEN TEXTS OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL WESTERN TRADITION KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL: - DEEPLY KNOW THE ANALYSIS’ METHODOLOGIES ABOUT THE SPECULATIVE AND LEXICAL ASPECTS OF THE MOST RELEVANT ENGLISH PHILOSOPHICAL TEXTS IN THEIR ORIGINAL LANGUAGE - DEEPLY KNOW THE TECHNICAL VOCABULARY OF THE ENGLISH PHILOSOPHY - DEEPLY KNOW THE BASIS OF THE WESTERN HISTORIOGRAPHICAL DEBATE ABOUT THE PROPOSED TEXTS - DEEPLY KNOW THE MATTER’S SPECIFIC METHODOLOGIES IN THEIR LINKS WITH THE ONES OF HISTORY, ENGLISH LANGUAGE ETC. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL: - SITUATE THE MAIN ANGLO-SAXON PHILOSOPHERS IN THEIR SPECIFIC HISTORICAL, CULTURAL AND POLITICAL CONTEXT - LINK THE COMPETENCIES OF PHILOSOPHICAL, HISTORICAL AND LINGUISTIC FIELDS FOR A BETTER COMPREHENSION OF THE COURSE’S THEMES - USE THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF THE SPECIFIC ENGLISH VOCABULARY IN THEIR HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT - INDEPENDENTLY DEVELOP, THANKS TO THE DEBATE WITH TEACHER AND OTHER STUDENTS, THE POSSIBILE SOLUTIONS TO THE ISSUES OF THE COURSE - USE THE LINGUISTIC PROFICIENCIES FOR THE STUDY AND READING OF ENGLISH TEXTS AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT THE STUDENT WILL: - IDENTIFY PRIORITIES AND RELEVANT ISSUES WITHIN GENERAL THEMES - EXPRESS AUTONOMOUS JUDGMENTS ON AUTHORS AND THEMES STUDIED, IN PARTICULAR REGARDING LINGUISTIC AND PHILOSOPHICAL PECULIARITIES - MAKE AN EPISTEMOLOGICAL EVALUATION AND USE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGES AND THEIR METHODOLOGIES IN THE CONTEMPORARY CONTEST - MAKE EPISTEMOLOGICAL EVALUATION FOUNDED ON THE THEMES STUDIED COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL: - COMMUNICATE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, BOTH TO PEOPLE SKILLED IN THE PHILOSOPHICAL FIELD (WITH APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE AND TECHNICAL MEANS) AND TO NON-EXPERT PEOPLE (WITH CLARITY AND COMPLETENESS), BOTH IN ORAL AND WRITTEN MANNER, AND IN HIGH QUALIFIED FORM - SHOW HIGH ABILITIES IN THE READING AND EXPLANATION OF ENGLISH TEXTS, IN PARTICULAR REGARDING THE COMMUNICATIVE RELATION WITH THE JOB’S WORLD - SHOW HIGH ABILITIES IN THE ORAL EXPOSITION AND IN THE PRODUCTION OF WRITTEN ESSAYS ABOUT THE THEMES STUDIED, WITH GOOD RESULTS BOTH IN CONTENT AND IN FORM - READ THE ANGLO-SAXON PHILOSOPHICAL TEXTS IN A CORRECT AND HISTORICALLY APPROPRIATE MANNER LEARNING ABILITIES THE STUDENT WILL: - CONTINUE THE STUDIES, USING THE LINGUISTIC COMPETENCIES ACQUIRED DURING THE COURSE - DEVELOP COMPETENCIES DEEPENING AND ORIGINAL RESEARCHES ON THE COURSE’S THEMES, EVEN AFTER THE MASTER’S DEGREE - SHOW HIGH COMMUNICATION AND PROFESSIONAL ABILITIES IN THE FIELD OF THE ENGLISH EXPRESSION, WITH PARTICULAR FOCUS ON THE NEW COMMUNICATION FORMS |

'LET THEM CURSE MY NAME': CHARLES I, MILTON AND TYRANNICIDE IN XVII. CENTURY'S ENGLAND. THE COURSE INTENDS TO ANALYZE, THROUGH THE READING AND ANALYSIS OF SELECTED PASSAGES BY GEORGE BUCHANAN, KING JAMES I, JOHN MILTON, AS WELL AS SOME MINOR AUTHORS, THE PROBLEM OF TYRANNICIDE IN XVII CENTURY'S ENGLAND, IN LIGHT OF THE EXECUTION OF KING CHARLES I (01.30.1649). THE COURSE ALSO AIMS TO INVESTIGATE ASSUMPTIONS, MOTIVATIONS, EXPLANATIONS, AND POSSIBLE REPERCUSSIONS OF THE TOPIC UP TO THE CONTEMPORARY TIME. |

LECTURES WITH GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE TEXTS, READING OF SIGNIFICATIVE PASSAGES OF THE WORK, WITH GUIDED TRANSLATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION THE COURSE TAKES PLACE IN THE FIRST SEMESTER AND COMPRISES A TOTAL OF 30 LECTURE HOURS. |

THE ORAL EXAM WILL VERIFY THE COMPETENCIES OF THE STUDENTS AND THEIR CAPACITIES TO USE THE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGES OF THE COURSE. DURING THE ORAL EXAM, THE TEACHER WILL EVALUATE THE CAPACITY OF TRANSMITTING IN A CLEAR WAY THE LEARNED KNOWLEDGES AND METHODOLOGIES. HONOURS ARE AWARDED WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENT AND SHOWS THE ABILITY TO PRESENT THE TOPICS WITH CONSIDERABLE LANGUAGE PROPERTY AND INDEPENDENT ELABORATION SKILLS EVEN IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED BY THE LECTURER. |
