Objectives | |

THE STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN CURRENTS OF THOUGHT AND THE MAIN STYLES OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN ITALY AND ABROAD. THEY WILL ACQUIRE SKILLS BASED IN THIS KNOWLEDGE OF CONTEMPORARY ART HISTORY. THEY WILL LEARN TO USE THEIR THEORETICAL AND TECNICAL KNOWLEDGE TO RECOGNIZE WICH ARTISTIC CONTEXT A WORK OF ART BELONGS AND ITS APPROXIMATE DATE AND PLACE OF EXECUTION TO CHRONOLOGICALLY ANG GEOGRAPHICALLY. THEY WILL ALSO BE ACQUAINTED WITH THE BASIC TERMINOLOGY REQUIE TO INTERPRET A WORK OF ART. |

THE COURSE WILL PRESENT THE ESSENTIAL OUTLINES OF THE HISTORY OF CONTEMPORARY ART FROM THE ROMANTICISM TO THE INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH ON ART FORMS OF THE LAST FEW DECADES OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO ACQUAINT STUDENTS WITH THE MAIN MOVEMENTS IN ART HISTORY THROUGH IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS OF HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL BACKGROUND AND REFERENCE TO THE RELEVENT SOURCES AND CRITICAL DEBATE. THE INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE MOST OUT STANDING ARTIST WILL BE EXAMINE AND READINGS OF SOME WORKS CHOSEN TO EXEMPLIFY METHODS OF INTERPRETING CONTEMPORARY WORKS OF ART WILL BE GIVEN. |

THE EXAMINATION WILL BE ORAL. THEIR RESULTS WILL BE BASED ON DISCUSSION OF A NUMBER OF WORKS OF ART, WITH REFERENCE TO THE CRITICAL SOURCES STUDIED DURING THE COURSE. |
