THE COURSE AIMS TO ANALYZE THE HISTORY OF CONTEMPORARY ART FROM THE NINETEENTH CENTURY TO THE PRESENT DAY THE STUDENT WILL KNOW THE THEORIES AND TECHNIQUES OF THE DISCIPLINE AND WILL UNDERSTAND THE BASIC TERMINOLOGY THE STUDENT WILL KNOW THE ARTISTIC THEORIES OF ARTISTS, CRITICS AND MOVEMENTS AND WILL UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE MOVEMENTS AND THE PRACTICES THAT CHARACTERIZE THE ART OF TODAY. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - ESTABLISH CRITICAL LINKS BETWEEN WORKS OF DIFFERENT PERIODS, ON THE BASIS OF STYLISTIC, ICONOGRAPHIC AND GENRE AFFINITIES - UNDERSTAND ARTISTIC LANGUAGES, IDENTIFYING THEIR SPECIFIC STRUCTURE AND LOGIC. THE STUDENT WILL DEVELOP USEFUL CRITICAL SKILLS TO INDEPENDENTLY ASSESS METHODOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL ISSUES CONCERNING THE LANGUAGES OF THE ARTS. THE STUDENT WILL KNOW HOW TO COMMUNICATE KNOWLEDGE TO AN AUDIENCE OF EXPERTS AND NON-EXPERTS BY EXPRESSING IT WITH APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS AND USE BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS, BOTH TRADITIONAL AND DIGITAL. |

THE COURSE WILL TRACE THE ESSENTIAL OUTLINES OF THE HISTORY OF CONTEMPORARY ART FROM ROMANTICISM TO THE INTERNATIONAL ARTISTIC RESEARCH OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO ENHANCE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN ARTISTIC MOVEMENTS THROUGH AN ANALYSIS OF HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTS WITH REFERENCES TO THE SOURCES AND THE CRITICAL DEBATE. THE INDIVIDUAL PATHS OF THE MAJOR ARTISTS WILL BE EXAMINED AND THE READING OF SOME WORKS WILL BE PROPOSED AS AN EXAMPLE OF METHOD FOR INTERPRETING THE CONTEMPORARY ARTWORK. |

ORAL EXAM BASED ON THE ANALYSIS OF IMAGES AND THEIR CORRECT COLLOCATION IN HISTORICAL AND ARTISTIC CONTEXT. THE EXAM WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE END OF THE COURSE. |
