Angelo MAIORINO Curriculum
He is affiliated with the scientific-disciplinary sector IIND-07/A (Industrial Technical Physics) – scientific-disciplinary group 09/IIND-07 (Technical Physics and Nuclear Engineering), with a particular focus on refrigeration, energy efficiency, and innovative technologies for sustainability.
Born in 1979, he graduated Cum Laudae in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Salerno in 2004, followed by a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, awarded in 2008. From 2014 to 2017, he served as a Researcher RTD/b, from 2017 to 2024 as an Associate Professor, and since 2024, he has been a Full Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Salerno.
He has been the reference lecturer for the Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering since 2015 and is a member of the PhD College in Innovative Engineering Technologies for Industrial Sustainability (IETIS). He has also held significant roles in teaching and examination committees, including those for the PhD program and Master's degree courses.
He has held various positions in organizational, management, and service committees within his Department, significantly contributing to the management and improvement of teaching and research activities. Key roles include being a member of the Admission Test Commission for the Master's Degree Programs in Mechanical and Management Engineering, the Commission for organizing exam dates for the Mechanical and Management Engineering Teaching Area, the Commission for Training Activities for PhD students in Industrial Engineering, the Window on Work Commission for the Teaching Council, and the Commission for Internships and Curricular Placements, playing a crucial role in managing internships and external collaborations for students. He is also a member of the Online Test Commission for university entrance (TOLC) and has participated in the promotion and development of training and job placement opportunities for students in the Department of Industrial Engineering. He is also a member of the Quality Assurance Group for the IETIS PhD Program and the Quality Assurance Commission for the Department of Industrial Engineering.
He is the scientific head of the "Refrigeration Technology Laboratory," focusing on: Vapor-compression refrigeration systems and alternative technologies such as magnetic refrigeration; use of environmentally friendly refrigerants, including carbon dioxide; energy efficiency and environmental impact studies in refrigerated transport and cold storage; optimization of refrigeration systems using new refrigerants and the integration of advanced technologies.
He has developed numerical models for the simulation of refrigeration systems, created prototypes of innovative refrigeration systems, and proposed innovative control strategies to optimize energy performance.
He is a co-inventor of an international patent for a regulation system for refrigeration plants (WO/2020/170073).
He has collaborated and is currently collaborating with numerous companies, including Denso Thermal Systems SpA, Angelantoni SpA, Leonardo S.p.A., Desmon SpA, to develop technical solutions and optimize refrigeration systems in various industrial contexts, from automotive refrigeration to energy efficiency management in complex technological systems.
He is a founding member and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of the university spin-off ARES S.r.l., which develops advanced technologies in the refrigeration sector.
He is the author of over 120 scientific publications. He contributes significantly to research in the fields of refrigeration and energy efficiency, with works published in international journals and conference proceedings. On Scopus, he has 86 indexed articles and an H-index of 32, with over 2,500 citations.
He has been part of the Scientific Committees for international conferences and is a member of the E1 Commission (Air Conditioning) and the Working Group on Solid State Cooling and Heating at the International Institute of Refrigeration.
He has served and is currently serving on the editorial boards of the following journals: *Journal of Thermodynamics*, Hindawi, Academic Editor; *Journal of Engineering*, Hindawi, Academic Editor (Mechanical Engineering); *Energies* (MDPI), Academic Editor, Topic Editor (Cooling Technologies), Guest Editor for Special Issues; *Frontiers in Energy Research*, Associate Editor and Review Editor.
He is a reviewer for international scientific journals, including *Applied Thermal Engineering*, *International Journal of Refrigeration*, *Applied Energy*, *Energy Conversion and Management*, *Energy*, *Nature Energy*, *Joule*, and *Energies*.
He has reviewed the proceedings of the following conferences: *VII Thermag Conference*, Turin, 2016; *Sustem 2015*, Newcastle, 2015; *13th National and 4th International Conference in Engineering Thermodynamics*, Castellón, 2023.
He is involved in numerous scientific outreach events, including conferences and training courses for professionals in the energy and engineering sectors. He has also participated in technology transfer initiatives, collaborating with companies and research institutions.
