TAKING UP THE THEORIES AND METHODS OF GEOGRAPHIC-TERRITORIAL ANALYSIS, THE TEACHING PROVIDES THE BASIS FOR THEIR APPLICATION IN THE DEFINITION OF DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES THROUGH THE ELABORATION OF URBAN, TERRITORIAL AND STRATEGIC PLANS. THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE FULL KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE ROLE AND FUNCTIONS THAT PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ACTORS ASSUME IN LAND TRANSFORMATION POLICIES; HE/SHE WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSES OF URBAN AND TERRITORIAL PLANS, WIDE AREA PLANNING, STRATEGIC PLANNING AND SECTOR PLANS, THEIR CONTENTS AND THE METHODS OF THEIR FORMATION, APPROVAL AND MANAGEMENT. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE LEARNED IN SPECIFIC WORK CONTEXTS AND UNDERSTAND ITS PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS. BY REVIEWING THE STAGES OF THE SPATIAL PLANNING PROCESS, HE OR SHE WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE DECISION-MAKING MECHANISMS OF SPATIAL GOVERNANCE AT ALL LEVELS. IN ADDITION, HE/SHE WILL KNOW HOW TO FORMULATE AN ACCURATE CONTEXT ANALYSIS THROUGH PROJECT WORK, BE ABLE TO DEVELOP REPORTS FOR PUBLIC ADMINISTRATIONS, AND LEARN HOW TO DEFINE A CLEAR VISION OF TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO EXERCISE HIS OR HER OWN READING OF THE TRANSFORMATIONS OF THE TERRITORY AND WILL BE ABLE TO DEVELOP SKILLS IN THE CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF TERRITORIAL POLICIES IMPLEMENTED BY INSTITUTIONAL ACTORS, PAYING ATTENTION TO THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS OF PLAN CHOICES AND TO A MORE ADEQUATE INTERPRETATION OF URBAN AND TERRITORIAL PHENOMENA AS A RESOURCE, GRASPING THE OPPORTUNITIES AND IDENTIFYING THE CRITICALITIES INDUCED BY ECONOMIC-POLITICAL SCENARIOS. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO EXPOUND HIS OR HER KNOWLEDGE THROUGH AN APPROPRIATE USE OF GEOGRAPHIC LANGUAGE; WILL DEVELOP COMMUNICATION SKILLS ON ISSUES THAT CONCERN TERRITORIAL PLANNING, THUS BEING ABLE TO INTERACT WITH ALL THE SUBJECTS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THE FORMULATION OF PLANS; AND WILL BE ABLE TO EXPRESS AND ARGUE, IN A CLEAR AND COMPREHENSIVE MANNER, ISSUES AND CONCEPTS CONCERNING PLANNING AT ALL LEVELS, FROM THE EUROPEAN TO THE URBAN SCALE. THE GEOGRAPHIC-ECONOMIC KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED DURING THE COURSE WILL ENABLE THE STUDENT TO HAVE ADEQUATE MASTERY OF THE CONCEPTUAL AND OPERATIONAL TOOLS OF BOTH URBAN AND REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY AND SPATIAL AND STRATEGIC PLANNING. |
Prerequisites | |

THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF THE DISCIPLINE GEOGRAPHICAL IS REQUIRED. |
Contents | |
---|---|

Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS: THE THEORETICAL AND GENERAL FIRST ONE, AIMED AT THE PRESENTATION OF THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF SPATIAL PLANNING (PLANNING LEVELS, MODELS) AND THE INSTRUMENTS OF PLANNING (46 HOURS), AND AN APPLICATIVE AND METHODOLOGICAL SECOND ONE, IN WHICH CASE STUDIES AND PLANNING PROJECTS ADDRESSED IN WORKING GROUPS WILL BE COVERED, ALSO THROUGH KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT AND DECISION SUPPORT (GIS) TOOLS (14 HOURS). THE TEACHER'S EXPOSURE WILL BE SUPPORTED BY SLIDES. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE EVALUATION WILL TAKE PLACE THROUGH AN ORAL EXAM THAT WILL ALLOW FOR THE DISCUSSION OF A PROJECT WORK. THEREFORE, THE ORAL TEST WILL BE AIMED AT VERIFYING THE KNOWLEDGE AND GEOGRAPHICAL SKILLS, THE SKILLS GAINED BY THE STUDENT TO CRITICALLY ANALYZE FACTS AND SPATIAL ISSUES OF PLANNING AT THE DIFFERENT SPATIAL SCALES, AND TO FIND LINKS BETWEEN THE VARIOUS ISSUES. THE DISCUSSION OF THE PROJECT WORK WILL AIM TO VERIFY THE CAPACITY ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES OBJECT OF STUDY. |
