KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE AIMS TO STIMULATE AND DEVELOP STUDENTS' LINGUISTIC AWARENESS. TO THIS END, THE COURSE AIMS TO ENABLE STUDENTS TO: - DEVELOP AN AWARENESS OF WHAT A LANGUAGE IS, HOW IT IS ORGANISED AND WHAT POINTS LANGUAGES HAVE IN COMMON, AND WHAT DIFFERENTIATES THEM; - MASTER THE FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS, MODELS, AND METHODS FOR THE MODERN STUDY OF LANGUAGE AND HISTORICO-NATURAL LANGUAGES; - TO BE ABLE TO COMPARE DATA FROM DIFFERENT LANGUAGES BY GRASPING THEIR COMMON ELEMENTS AND THOSE THAT DIFFERENTIATE THEM: - MASTER THE THEORETICAL AND TECHNICAL RUDIMENTS FOR ANALYSING AND DESCRIBING LANGUAGES AT DIFFERENT LEVELS: PHONETIC, PHONOLOGICAL, MORPHOLOGICAL, SYNTACTIC, SEMANTIC, AND PRAGMATIC. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE AIMS TO DEVELOP THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO ORIENT THEMSELVES IN THE VAST WORLD OF LINGUISTICS; IN PARTICULAR, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - APPLY THE THEORETICAL CONCEPTS LEARNED TO THE ANALYSIS OF LINGUISTIC DATA; - COMPARE DATA FROM DIFFERENT LANGUAGES - STARTING WITH ITALIAN - IDENTIFYING THEIR COMMON ELEMENTS AND THOSE THAT DIFFERENTIATE THEM. AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT: THE COURSE AIMS TO DEVELOP IN THE STUDENT THE ABILITY TO: - FORMULATE HYPOTHESES, ESTABLISH LOGICAL CONNECTIONS, ARGUE, COMPARE, AND EVALUATE LANGUAGES OF DIFFERENT TYPES; - CRITICALLY SELECT SOURCES OF INFORMATION (BIBLIOGRAPHICAL AND MULTIMEDIA) FOR THE COMPARATIVE STUDY OF DIFFERENT LINGUISTIC CODES; - SITUATE AND CONSIDER LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA IN RELATION TO THE CULTURAL AND SPATIAL CONTEXTS OF REFERENCE AS WELL AS THEIR TEMPORAL EVOLUTION; - BEING ABLE TO ORGANISE AND CRITICALLY EVALUATE THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE COURSE AIMS TO DEVELOP IN THE STUDENT THE ABILITY TO: - USE THE METALANGUAGE OF THE DISCIPLINE APPROPRIATELY; - ACQUIRE AWARENESS OF LANGUAGES AS PRE-EMINENT COMMUNICATIVE TOOLS OF HUMAN COMMUNITIES; - TO REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, THROUGH TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, THE RESULTS OF THEIR RESEARCH OR ELABORATION. LEARNING ABILITY: THE COURSE AIMS TO DEVELOP THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO: - USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND ARCHIVING; - CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS OF VARIOUS TYPES, LITERARY, INSTITUTIONAL, ADVERTISING, ETC.; - TO CONTINUOUSLY UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE. |

THE COURSE HAS AN INSTITUTIONAL CHARACTER AND IS FUNDAMENTAL FOR THOSE WISHING TO PURSUE INTERESTS IN THE AREA OF LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION. THE COURSE IS OF 12 CREDITS AND CONSISTS OF 60 HOURS OF FRONTAL LECTURES, IN WHICH WILL BE ALTERNATED - ACCORDING TO THE DIDACTIC NEEDS - HOURS OF LECTURES AND HOURS OF EXERCISES. DURING THE LECTURES, ALL THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE WILL BE EXPOSED, WHILE THE EXERCISES WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE CARRYING OUT OF THE EXERCISES NECESSARY TO DEVELOP THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION. STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE USE OF AN EXERCISE AND SELF-TESTING SUPPORT SET UP IN E-LEARNING MODE (ON THE LECTURER'S PERSONAL PAGE THERE WILL BE A DIRECT LINK TO THE EXERCISES). THE ONLINE MODE WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY MEETINGS AND VERIFICATIONS WITH THE PROFESSOR. |

THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING A WRITTEN EXAMINATION WITH A GRADE IN THIRTIETHS. BOTH ATTENDING AND NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO TAKE A WRITTEN EXAM (LASTING TWO HOURS) DIVIDED INTO FIVE SECTIONS. THE WRITTEN TEST IS PRECEDED BY 7 BASIC QUESTIONS (TWO FOR GRAMMAR AND ONE FOR EACH SECTION OF THE TEST). THE CORRECT ANSWER TO AT LEAST 5 OF THESE 7 BASIC QUESTIONS IS PRELIMINARY AND ESSENTIAL FOR THE CORRECTION OF THE TEST, SO IF YOU DO NOT ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS CORRECTLY, THE TEST IS CONSIDERED INSUFFICIENT. THE SECTIONS OF THE WRITTEN TEST ARE STRUCTURED AS FOLLOWS: 1)GENERAL SECTION, WHICH CONTAINS QUESTIONS OF SEMIOTICS, ON WORLD LANGUAGES AND LINGUISTIC VARIABILITY; 2)PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY; 3)MORPHOLOGY; 4)SYNTAX; 5)SEMANTICS, LEXICON AND PRAGMATICS. EACH SECTION CONTAINS OPEN QUESTIONS AND CLOSED OR MULTIPLE QUESTIONS. FOR EACH EXERCISE IS GIVEN THE HIGHEST RATING. THE SUM OF THE SCORES OBTAINED IN EACH APPLICATION WILL BE THE MARK OF EACH SECTION. EACH SECTION HAS A MINIMUM SCORE THAT MUST BE REACHED: IF THIS MINIMUM SCORE IS NOT REACHED THERE WILL BE A DEDUCTION OF ONE POINT. THE FINAL MARK WILL BE CALCULATED BY ADDING THE SCORES OBTAINED IN EACH SECTION (PLUS THE POINTS FOR PASSING THE BASIC QUESTIONS) AND CALCULATING POSSIBLE PENALTIES. THE MINIMUM MARK TO PASS THE EXAM IS 18/30. THE EXAM TEST CONSISTS OF A VARIABLE NUMBER OF QUESTIONS WHOSE FINAL SCORE IS ALWAYS HIGHER THAN 40. HONOURS WILL BE AWARDED TO STUDENTS WHOSE FINAL SCORE EXCEEDS 34. IN PARTICULAR, THE OVERALL SCORE WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: - 18/30 TO 23/30: THE CANDIDATE MUST DEMONSTRATE THE ATTAINMENT OF THE BASIC OBJECTIVES AND BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS ENVISAGED IN THE SYLLABUS, WITH SUFFICIENT AND COHERENT LINGUISTIC-COMMUNICATIVE EXPRESSION ABILITY; - 24/30 TO 26/30: THE CANDIDATE MUST DEMONSTRATE THE ACQUISITION OF A ROBUST KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS FORESEEN IN THE SYLLABUS AS WELL AS THE ABILITY TO MAKE LOGICAL CONNECTIONS AND EXPLAIN THEM WITH A CERTAIN LINGUISTIC FLUENCY AND DISCREET TERMINOLOGICAL APPROPRIATENESS; - 27/30 TO 29/30: THE CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS ADEQUATE SUBJECT-SPECIFIC TERMINOLOGICAL APPROPRIATENESS. HE/SHE MUST DEMONSTRATE A GOOD DEGREE OF THEORETICAL REFLECTION ON THE TOPICS STUDIED AND A GOOD LEVEL OF WRITTEN EXPOSITION; - 30/30 AND 30/30 WITH HONOURS: THE CANDIDATE MUST SHOW THAT HE/SHE HAS BRILLIANTLY ATTAINED THE OBJECTIVES SET, HAS FULL KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS, AND AN EXCELLENT ABILITY TO LINK THE SKILLS ACQUIRED; HE/SHE MUST ALSO SHOW A RELEVANT DEGREE OF EXPRESSION, WITH A CAPACITY FOR METALINGUISTIC REFLECTION AND CONSIDERABLE ATTENTION TO DETAIL. |
