Objectives
KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROPER MATHEMATICAL METHODS TO UNDERSTAND THE ECONOMIC MODELS AT AN ADVANCED LEVEL (KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING). STUDENTS WILL LEARN TO APPLY THE PROPER MATHEMATICAL METHODS TO ANALYZE AND SOLVE ECONOMIC ISSUES (APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING). THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE APPROPRIATE MATHEMATICAL METHODS WILL ENHANCE STUDENTS' CONFIDENCE WITH ECONOMIC MODELS AND WILL STIMULATE THINKING AS INTENDED (MAKING JUDGMENTS). STUDENTS WILL LEARN THE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE TO COMMUNICATE HYPOTHESES, ARGUMENTATIONS, CONCEPTS, PARTICULARLY IN THE ECONOMIC CONTEXT (COMMUNICATION SKILLS). STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO USE THE MATHEMATICAL METHODS NECESSARY TO UNDERSTAND ECONOMIC RESEARCH PAPERS AND TO STUDY THE SUBJECTS TAUGHT IN SUCH COURSES AS MACROECONOMIC THEORY AND MICROECONOMIC THEORY AT ADVANCED LEVEL (LEARNING SKILLS).
Prerequisites
KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC METHODS AND OF THE SUBJECTS TAUGHT IN THE INTRODUCTORY COURSES OF ECONOMICS.
Contents
THE REAL NUMBER SYSTEM, THE CONCEPT OF SETS, RELATIONS AND FUNCTIONS, LINEAR MODELS AND MATRIX ALGEBRA, COMPARATIVE STATICS AND THE CONCEPT OF DERIVATIVE, RULES OF DIFFERENTIATION, DERIVATIVES OF IMPLICIT FUNCTIONS, OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS, OPTIMIZATION WITH EQUALITY CONSTANT, ECONOMIC APPLICATIONS, INTEGRALS AND THEIR USEFULNESS IN ECONOMICS.

LECTURES AND CLASSES.
Verification of learning
Mid-term written exam. Final written and oral examinations. Judgments will be based on understanding and on the argumentation abilities.
