Angela CICATELLI Curriculum
Angela Cicatelli was graduated with honors (Biological Sciences) at the University of Naples (Italy). She obtained her doctoral degree in Applied Ecology (2010) at the University of Naples, and currently she is a Associate Professor (Scientific Sector 05/A1 BOTANICA) at Department of Chemistry and Biology “A. Zambelli” of University of Salerno.
Since 2004 until 2005, she worked at the Plant Biology Department of the University of Naples and her research interests were focused on phylogeny and phylogeography of several plant species, evaluated using different molecular markers. Since 2006 until present, at the University of Salerno, she studied plant population genetics and characterized several plant clones and cultivars by means of molecular markers. She also studied the heavy metal response, through molecular tools, and epigentic aspects of a white poplar tolerant clone inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi grown on heavy metal polluted soil. In particular, her research interest has been focused on the elucidation of the molecular and epigenetic bases of heavy metal accumulation and stress tolerance in plants, with particular attention to poplar species. In the framework of two OIGA (2009-2012) projects financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (MIPAAF), she evaluated effects of fertilization with compost on soil properties (chemical-physical and microbiological features) and on horticultural plants (molecular and epigenetic aspects in potato and lettuce), in comparison with conventional mineral fertilization (effects on productivity, transcriptome, epigenome and chemical features). Recently, she has conducted studies on molecular characterization of horticultural ecotypes (onion, zucchini, maize, etc.; in the framework of AGRIGENET project funded by the Campania Region), and of olive varieties of Campania region (in the framework of TUSERUMONA project funded by Avellino Province). In 2015, she obtained a Grant in the Framework of “Trees4Future” project (Integrated European Research Infrastructure Project - EU 7th Framework Program) to realize the research entitled “Black poplar rhizosphere microbiome study in relation to heavy metal stress and compost amendment (MiPo)”.
Actually, Angela Cicatelli is Scientific Coordinator of several FARB projects, financed by the University of Salerno. Currently, she has focused her research interest on: i) molecular aspects (transcriptomic, epigenetic and genetic) of the plant response to organic or inorganic contaminants; ii) dynamics of microbial community of soil and plant rhizosphere in response to metal contamination and/or soil compost amendment; iii) screening of plants and microorganisms, useful for phytoremediation of environmental matrices polluted by organic or inorganic contaminants.
