THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS TO ANALYZE AND INTERPRET CULTURAL PHENOMENA AND SPANISH LITERARY TEXTS OF MODERNITY, BOTH ON A FORMAL AND CONTENT LEVEL AND ALSO IN A COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO USE AND APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DEVELOPED FOR: - RECOGNIZE AND INTERPRET THE PROCESSES OF RECEPTION, DIFFUSION, EXCHANGE OF CULTURAL AND LITERARY PHENOMENA OF THE HISPANIC SPHERE IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT, ALSO IN A COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE; - APPLY CRITICAL CRITERIA AND METHODOLOGIES APPROPRIATE TO THE DIFFERENT TEXTUAL TYPOLOGIES. |

THE COURSE FOCUSES ON THE NARRATIVE OF THE CIVIL WAR, WITH THE AIM OF DEEPENING THE DYNAMICS THROUGH WHICH LITERATURE HAS INTERPRETED THAT TRAGIC EXPERIENCE OF SPANISH HISTORY, WITNESSING ITS DRAMAS AND INTERVENING IN THE DELICATE PROCESS OF HISTORICAL MEMORY IN THE COUNTRY. THE EDUCATIONAL PATH IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS. IN THE FIRST PART, AFTER A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE HISTORICAL EVENTS AND THE FUNDAMENTAL LITERARY TRANSFORMATIONS OF THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY, THE INTELLECTUAL DEBATE ON THE "PROBLEM OF SPAIN" WILL BE OUTLINED, INTRODUCING THE MOST REMARKABLE MOMENTS OF THE PRODUCTION FLOURISHED AROUND THE FRATRICIDAL WAR, IN THE YEARS OF THE CONFLICT AND IN THOSE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING, BOTH IN THE PENINSULA AND ABROAD WITH THE CONTRIBUTION OF EXILED AND FOREIGN AUTHORS. IN THE SECOND PART WE WILL THEREFORE FOCUS ON THE NOVEL OF SPANISH CIVIL WAR. THROUGH THE ANALYSIS OF THE WORKS OF MANUEL VÁSQUEZ MONTALBÁN (EL PIANISTA), JAVIER CERCAS (SOLDADOS DE SALAMINA), DULCE CHACÓN (LA VOZ DORMIDA), JESÚS FERRERO (LAS TRECE ROSAS), ALBERTO MÉNDEZ (LOS GIRASOLES CIEGOS) AND ISAC ROSA (OTRA MALDITA NOVELA SOBRE LA GUERRA CIVIL), PROPOSED TOGETHER WITH THE FILM ADAPTATIONS THAT HAVE AFFECTED SOME OF THEM, THEY WILL IDENTIFY AND DEEPEN SIGNIFICANT POETICS AND TRENDS IN CONTEMPORARY NARRATIVE LANGUAGES RELATING TO THE CONTEXT OF THE HISTORICAL NOVEL AND THE MEMORIAL GENRE, AFFECTED BY THE PROBLEM OF THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE CONFLICTING MEMORIES OF THE PAST. |

Verification of learning | |

ORAL EXAM, IN ITALIAN LANGUAGE. ATTENDING STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP A PAPER ON A TOPIC PREVIOUSLY AGREED WITH THE TEACHER, WHICH WILL THEN BE DISCUSSED IN THE ORAL EXAM. THE STUDENT WILL HAVE TO SHOW HIS CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONTENTS, THE ABILITY TO REFER WITH LANGUAGE PROPERTIES, TO USE THE CRITICAL INSTRUMENTS IN THE ANALYSIS OF LITERARY PRODUCTS. |
