Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A GOOD PRACTICAL AND THEORETICAL PREPARATION IN FRENCH. THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE TEACHING IS TO CONSOLIDATE THE METALINGUISTIC COMPETENCE OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE AT A TEXTUAL LEVEL, TO BE ABLE TO TRANSLATE A FRENCH TEXT INTO ITALIAN, AND TO ACHIEVE A LINGUISTIC COMPETENCE EQUAL TO LEVEL A2+/B1 OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES (CEFR). THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES IS VERIFIED IN A WRITTEN AND ORAL EXAM.
THE COURSE IS MADE UP OF AN ANNUAL MODULE AND ANNUAL LINGUISTIC EXERCISES STRICTLY INTEGRATED WITH IT AND COORDINATED BY THE TEACHER.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY
THE STUDENT:
- WILL KNOW, IN WRITTEN AND ORAL FORMS, THE FRENCH LANGUAGE REACHING AT LEVEL A2+/B1 OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES;
- WILL EXPAND KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC PRINCIPLES AND METHODS FOR ANALYSING TEXT;
- WILL KNOW THE BASIC TECHNIQUES AND METHODOLOGIES FOR TRANSLATION;
- WILL KNOW SHORT LITERARY PIECES IN FRENCH;
- WILL EXPAND KNOWLEDGE ON THE ORIGIN, EVOLUTION AND STRUCTURE OF THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE;
- WILL KNOW THE MAIN CURRENT TOPICS OF FRENCH LINGUISTICS.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED TO PRESENT DIFFERENT TOPICS OR TOPICS IN WRITTEN AND ORAL FORM;
- EXPLORE AND DISCUSS TOPICS CONCERNING FRANCOPHONE CULTURE AND CIVILIZATION EVEN IN A COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE WITH THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE;
- ANALYZE FROM A LINGUISTIC POINT OF VIEW, THROUGH THEORETICAL REFLECTIONS AND PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES, TEXTS OF VARIOUS NATURE;
- PRODUCE AND TRANSLATE TEXTS ON DIFFERENT TOPICS, EVEN IF NON-SPECIALIST, THROUGH REFLECTION ON THE RUDIMENTS OF TRANSLATION SCIENCE;
- EXAMINE TEXTS ON FRENCH LINGUISTICS.

JUDGMENT ABILITY
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- EVALUATE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEXTS PRESENTED;
- MOVE WITH CONFIDENCE IN SITUATIONS THAT MAY OCCUR WHILE TRAVELLING IN THE COUNTRY WHERE THE LANGUAGE IS SPOKEN; PRODUCE A SIMPLE TEXT ON TOPICS THAT ARE FAMILIAR OR OF PERSONAL INTEREST; DESCRIBE EXPERIENCES AND EVENTS, DREAMS, HOPES AND AMBITIONS AND BRIEFLY EXPLAIN THE REASONS FOR HIS/HER OPINIONS AND PLANS - LEVEL A2+/B1;
- DISCERN THE TYPES OF STRUCTURES, SETTINGS AND CONTENTS OF THE TEXTS COVERED BY THE COURSE (BASIC SYNTACTIC UNITS, BASIC FRENCH LINGUISTICS TOPICS, LANGUAGE VARIETY, LIVEAUX DE LANGUE, FEMINISATION, POST-COLONIALISM, VERBAL VIOLENCE), IN ORDER TO SELECT TOPICS AND TEXTS OF DIFFERENT NATURE FOR THE DRAFTING OF A WRITTEN COMPOSITION.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- COMMUNICATE IN FRENCH IN DAILY AND UNIVERSITY CONTEXTS;
- DEAL WITH GENERAL COMMUNICATION SITUATIONS WITH EASE, EXPRESSING HIMSELF WITH PROPERTY BOTH ORALLY AND IN WRITING ON VARIOUS TOPICS;
- REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, THROUGH TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, RESULTS OF RESEARCH OR OWN PROCESSING.

LEARNING SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND ARCHIVING;
- CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET MEDIUM-COMPLEX TEXTS, OF A PUBLIC OR LITERARY TYPE;
- CONTINUOUSLY UPDATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE, USING TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE.
Prerequisites
THE COURSE TARGET IS ADDRESSED TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE ALREADY A GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE (CEFR A2+ LEVEL). THE STUDENTS OF LINGUE E CULTURE STRANIERE WILL HAVE ALREADY PASSED: LINGUA FRANCESE I AND LETTERATURA FRANCESE I EXAMS.

THE COURSE PROVIDES A THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL APPROACH TO ENSURE THE ABILITY TO:
- COMMUNICATE IN EVERYDAY CONTEXTS,
- READ, UNDERSTAND AND SUMMARIZE TEXTS OF MEDIUM COMPLEXITY.
THE TOOLS PROVIDED WILL AIM TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO ADAPT TO VARIOUS COMMUNICATIVE SITUATIONS, BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN, AS WELL AS TO INTRODUCE THE STUDENT TO DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF FRENCH AND FRANCOPHONE CULTURE AND LINGUSITICS.
GRAMMAR/SYNTACTIC EXERCISES AND VOCABULARY STUDY WILL BE EMPLOYED TO:
- STIMULATE REFLECTION ON LANGUAGE,
- DEEPEN AUTOMATISMS AND ACTIVITIES INVOLVING THE REUSE OF ACQUIRED NOTIONS.
IN AN EFFORT TO FACILITATE ANALYTICAL REFLECTION ON LANGUAGE, THEORETICAL-METHODOLOGICAL LECTURES WILL BE COMPLEMENTED BY PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES OF LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS IN THE CLASSROOM AND IN SELF-STUDY MODE.

SOME EXERCISES WILL BE DEVOTED TO LEARNING THE USE OF THE MAIN LANGUAGE LEARNING TOOLS (DICTIONARIES, GRAMMARS, MULTIMEDIA TOOLS) ALSO THROUGH NODS TO TRANSLANGUAGING.
EXPLICIT REFERENCES TO LEXICAL MORPHOLOGY AND SEMANTICS WILL BE MADE DURING THE COURSE, WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO CONTEMPORARY EVOLUTIONARY TRENDS IN THE FRENCH LEXICON AND THE FRENCH/ITALIAN CONTRASTIVE ASPECT.
LEXICON ANALYSIS IS CONTEXTUALIZED THROUGH THE READING OF AUTHENTIC TEXTS.

SOME TOPICS RELATED TO APPROACHES TO TRANSLATIONOLOGY (COMPARATIVE LINGUISTIC AND STYLISTIC: VINAY-DARBELNET) WILL BE ADDRESSED.
THE CYCLE OF EXERCISES WITH MOTHER TONGUE CEL IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE COURSE AND ALL STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO FOLLOW THEM CONSTANTLY.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES 45 HOURS OF FACE-TO-FACE AND INTERACTIVE LESSONS + 88 HOURS OF LANGUAGE TRAINING WITH THE COLLABORATOR AND LINGUISTIC EXPERT.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM FOR ALL STUDENTS INCLUDES A PREPARATORY WRITTEN TEST LASTING 5 HOURS, THE PASSING OF WHICH IS A PREREQUISITE FOR ACCESS TO THE ORAL TEST. THIS WILL FOCUS ON THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE BASED ON THE CONTENTS OF THE TEXTBOOKS ADOPTED FOR THE STUDY OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE.
STUDENTS OF FRENCH LANGUAGE II ARE REQUIRED TO PASS:
-A DICTATION TEST OF PHONETIC, PHONOLOGICAL AND MORPHOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE,
-STRUCTURAL EXERCISES VERIFYING ACQUIRED MORPHOLOGICAL AND LEXICAL KNOWLEDGE,
-A SHORT COMPOSITION IN FRENCH ON THE CIVILIZATION TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE;
THE ORAL TEST WILL CONSIST OF AN INTERVIEW IN FRENCH ON TOPICS STUDIED AND EXPLORED IN DEPTH DURING THE COURSE (TAKEN FROM THE LINGUISTICS AND TRANSLATION' TEXTS AND FROM PAPERS PROPOSED BY THE LECTURER) AND THE TRANSLATION OF A SHORT TEXT FROM FRENCH INTO ITALIAN. PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE WILL BE ATTACHED TO THE PRESENTATION, DISCUSSION AND COMMENTARY OF A TOPIC THAT THE STUDENT WILL HAVE CHOSEN TO EXPLORE IN DEPTH IN A GROUP OR INDEPENDENTLY FROM THOSE COVERED DURING THE COURSE OF THE LECTURES.
THE FINAL GRADE WILL BE THE RESULT OF THE AVERAGE OF THE MARKS GIVEN IN EACH EXAMINATION PAPER. THE AWARDING OF THE MAXIMUM GRADE IN THIRTIETHS (30/30) WILL CORRESPOND TO THE TOTAL ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES, 27 TO 29/30 THE ACHIEVEMENT OF ALL OBJECTIVES WITH SOME GAPS, 24 TO 26/30 THE PARTIAL ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES, 18 TO 23/30 THE ACHIEVEMENT OF 50% OF THE COURSE OBJECTIVES.
