Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO ACQUIRE THE BASIC METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS FOR THE STUDY OF GREEK HISTORY AND TO GIVE AN OVERVIEW OF THE POLITICAL AND INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE GREEK WORLD (FROM THE MYCENAEAN CIVILIZATION AND THE FORMATION OF THE POLEIS TO THE CONQUESTS OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT AND THE END OF FREEDOM OF THE GREEKS AFTER THE ROMAN INTERVENTION IN GREECE), HIGHLIGHTING THE POLITICAL, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS BY READING AND ANALYZING DOCUMENTARY SOURCES, WITH ESPECIAL FOCUS ON LITERARY AND EPIGRAPHIC.

INTRODUCTION TO GENERAL ASPECTS (E.G. CHRONOLOGY AND GEOGRAPHY OF THE GREEK WORLD) AND THE DOCUMENTARY BASIS, IN PARTICULAR LITERARY AND EPIGRAPHIC SOURCES). HISTORICAL EVENTS OF THE GREEK WORLD FROM THE MYCENAEAN CIVILIZATION TO THE ROMAN CONQUEST: THE PERIOD OF THE ORIGINS (THE MYCENAEAN CIVILIZATION, THE HOMERIC WORLD, THE FORMATION OF THE POLIS, COLONIZATION), THE MAIN EVENT BETWEEN THE AGE OF THE PERSIAN WARS AND THE RISE OF PHILIP II OF MACEDONIA, THE CRISIS IN THE WORLD OF THE POLEIS, THE KINGDOM OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT AND THE FORMATION OF THE HELLENISTIC KINGDOMS, UNTIL THE CONQUEST OF ROME AND THE REDUCTION OF GREECE TO A ROMAN PROVINCE. THE LESSONS WILL BE INTEGRATED WITH THE READING OF TEXTS BY GREEK AUTHORS (IN ITALIAN TRANSLATION) RELATED TO THE TOPICS DISCUSSED.

FOCUS ON INDIVIDUAL TOPICS.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL TEST THAT AIMS TO VERIFY:
- THE KNOWLEDGE OF HISTORICAL ISSUES AND OF THE LINES OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE HISTORY OF THE GREEK AND ROMAN WORLD;
- THE UNDERSTANDING OF PLACING EVENTS IN TIME AND SPACE, CONTEXTUALIZING HISTORICAL EVENTS, IDENTIFY CAUSES AND EFFECTS, MAKE CONNECTIONS, USE THE SPECIFIC BASIC VOCABULARY;
- MAKING JUDGEMENT: ANALYZE, EVALUATING AND FILTERING THE DATA AND ELABORATE REFLECTIONS AND CRITICAL CONSIDERATIONS IN THE VARIOUS SECTORS OF COMPETENCE;
- COMMUNICATION SKILLS: EXPOSING THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE CORRECTLY AND ORGANICALLY.
THE FINAL GRADE WILL DEPEND ON THE MATURITY ACQUIRED ON THE COURSE CONTENTS.
