As a student of Spanish Literature, you will not only be able to analyse a wide range of literary texts from the Golden Age, but you will also explore the complex relationships between literature, history and society. |

This course focuses on Spanish Literature from Filippo II to 1680. As such, it will explore the connections between literature, society, history, culture and politics during the Golden Age. Topics: the evolution of the picaresque; Cervantes; the birth of the public theatre; the formation of modern forms of subjectivity in poetry; renaissance and baroque; the reinforcement of seigniorial beliefs and the emergence of absolutism. Texts by Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Calderón, Tirso de Molina, Quevedo, Góngora. |
