Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE ESSENTIAL TOOLS FOR THE ANALYSIS AND CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN TEXTS, LITERARY AND CULTURAL PHENOMENA OF THE SIGLO DE ORO IN SPAIN.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT:
-WILL KNOW THE FUNDAMENTAL AND DISTINCTIVE TEXTS OF SPANISH LITERARY PRODUCTION BETWEEN THE END OF THE 16TH CENTURY AND THE END OF THE 17TH CENTURY;
-WILL KNOW THE ESSENTIAL TOOLS FOR ANALYZING LITERARY TEXTS;
-WILL UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE HISTORICAL CULTURAL CONTEXT AND THE LITERARY ONE

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-TRANSLATE AND COMMENT ON TEXTS IN PROSE AND IN VERSE OF THE RICH SIGLO DE ORO’S LITERATURE;
-EXAMINE THE FORMAL STRUCTURE AND CONTENT OF THE PROPOSED TEXTS;
-ADEQUATELY ELABORATE THE INFORMATION AND ARGUE MAINLY IN SPANISH.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-COLLECT AND INTERPRET DATA;
-DISCERN ESSENTIAL INFORMATION FROM SECONDARY ONE;
-ELABORATE AUTONOMOUS JUDGMENTS STARTING FROM A SOLID KNOWLEDGE OF THE DATA.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-COMMUNICATE INFORMATION, IDEAS AND ARGUE IN SPANISH AND IN ITALIAN.

LEARNING SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND DIGITAL RESOURCES;
-UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX LITERARY TEXTS;
-PROCEED WITH THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING THE RELEVANT SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE.
Prerequisites
CONSOLIDATED KNOWLEDGE OF ITALIAN AND A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF SPANISH. BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN EVENTS OF SPANISH AND EUROPEAN HISTORY OF THE SIXTEENTH AND SEVENTEENTH CENTURIES AS WELL AS OF THE ITALIAN CULTURE AND LITERATURE OF THE RENAISSANCE AND BAROQUE. ELEMENTS OF METRICS AND RHETORIC.
STUDENTS MUST HAVE PASSED THE SPANISH LITERATURE I AND SPANISH LANGUAGE I EXAMS.
Contents
THE COURSE IS MAINLY ABOUT THE GOLDEN AGE PERIOD, WITH SPECIFIC ATTENTION BEING PAID TO PICARESQUE NOVEL, CERVANTES, THE COMEDIA NUEVA AND POETRY FROM 1580 TO THE END OF THE XVII CENTURY.
Teaching Methods
LECTURES (54 HOURS). ALTHOUGH NOT FORMALLY MANDATORY, ATTENDANCE IS HIGLY RECOMMENDED. STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT EXCEEDED 20% ABSENCES WILL BE CONSIDERED AS ATTENDING.
Verification of learning
ORAL FINAL EXAM.
THE EVALUATION CRITERIA WILL BE:
A) CAPACITY TO SPEAK FLUENTLY CORRECTLY AND CLEARLY IN ITALIAN AND SPANISH
B) CAPACITY AT PRESENTING AN ARGUMENT COHERENT WITH THE COURSE TOPICS
C) CAPACITY OF RECOGNIZING LITERARY MOVEMENTS AND TEXTS WITH A GOOD ANALYSIS OF THEIR ORIGINAL THEMATIC AND FORMAL ASPECTS
