Objectives
OBJECTIVES
THE GOAL OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE BASIC KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE FUNCTIONING OF THE EUKARYOTIC PLANT CELL, THE ANATOMICAL ORGANIZATION OF PLANTS, AND THE REPRODUCTIVE CYCLE OF ANGIOSPERMS.

ADDITIONALLY, THE COURSE AIMS TO DEVELOP ADEQUATE SKILLS TO COLLECT, ANALYZE, AND INTERPRET RELEVANT DATA WITHIN THE FIELD OF PLANT BIOLOGY. THIS KNOWLEDGE WILL BE INDISPENSABLE FOR TACKLING SUBSEQUENT TEACHINGS AND/OR COURSES OF STUDY DIRECTLY RELATED TO BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY

THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO OBSERVE CELLULAR STRUCTURES, TISSUES, AND ORGANS, AS WELL AS THE MAIN BIOLOGICAL PROCESSES IN THE PLANT DOMAIN. IT IS HOPED THAT BY THE
END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENT WILL HAVE DEVELOPED THE LEARNING SKILLS NECESSARY TO UNDERTAKE FURTHER STUDIES WITH A GOOD DEGREE OF AUTONOMY.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND DISCUSS THE MAIN CONCEPTS RELATED TO GENERAL BOTANY.

JUDGMENT AUTONOMY AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO ANALYZE, DISCRIMINATE, AND SOLVE PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE COURSE CONTENT.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE AND DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO DESCRIBE BASIC KNOWLEDGE ABOUT MORPHOLOGY, CELL STRUCTURE, AND BIOLOGICAL PROCESSES

LEARNING ABILIT THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO ENHANCE AND IMPROVE THE ABILITY TO ACQUIRE AND CONNECT INFORMATION INDEPENDENTLY. IT IS HOPED THAT BY THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENT WILL HAVE DEVELOPED THE LEARNING SKILLS NECESSARY TO UNDERTAKE FURTHER STUDIES WITH A GOOD DEGREE OF AUTONOMY.
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ACQUIRED BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF BOTANY, ZOOLOGY, MICROBIOLOGY, INORGANIC AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY PROVIDED BY THE HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS.
Contents

•VISIT AT BOTANICAL GARDENS (4H)
Teaching Methods
THE BIOLOGY COURSE PROVIDES 68 HOURS OF TEACHING INCLUDING LESSONS AND LABORATORY ACTIVITIES. THE LESSONS ON ALL ARGUMENTS OF THE COURSE WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN THE CLASSROOM. FOR LABORATORY ACTIVITIES, THE STUDENTS WILL BE ORGANIZED INTO GROUPS (UP TO 30 TO 35 STUDENTS PER GROUP) AND THEY WILL FOLLOW THREE TRAINED LABORATORY ACTIVITIES OF TWO HOURS EACH, FINALIZED TO CARRY OUT, IN AUTONOMY, THE OBSERVATIONS OF EUKARYOTIC CELL, OF THE MAIN STRUCTURES OF THE VEGETABLE CELLS, AND THE HISTOLOGICAL STRUCTURES OF THE ORGANS BY MEANS OF OPTICAL MICROSCOPY. IT
IS ALSO PROVIDED A DIDACTIC VISIT AT BOTANICAL GARDENS (GIARDINI DELLA MINERVA DI SALERNO AND/OR ORTO BOTANICO DI NAPOLI).
Verification of learning
The achievement of the teaching goals will be verified through the passing of an exam. The exam consists of:
I) A written pretest structured with multiple-choice questions (15 questions). Passing the pretest is a prerequisite for taking the oral exam. The pretest is considered passed with at least 9 correct answers out of 15 questions. The number of correct answers does not contribute to the final exam grade, which is assigned at the end of the oral exam.
II) An oral exam aimed at verifying the learning of the topics presented by the instructor during the course. The final grade will be expressed in thirtieths.
Only the oral exam contributes to the final grade, which consists of an interview with questions and discussion on the contents indicated in the course program. It is aimed at assessing the student's level of knowledge and understanding, verifying the ability to present using appropriate terminology, and the ability to independently organize the presentation on the same theoretical content topics. The minimum passing grade for the exam is 18/30, awarded when the student demonstrates limited knowledge of the topics covered during the course. The maximum grade (30/30) is awarded when the student demonstrates complete and thorough knowledge of the fundamental concepts related to the teaching and will depend on the maturity acquired on the course contents, the ability to delve deeper demonstrated by the quality of the presentation in terms of using appropriate scientific language, and the autonomy of judgment shown. Praise may be awarded to students who achieve the maximum score of 30/30 and demonstrate the ability to independently apply the knowledge and skills acquired, even in contexts different from those proposed in the lecture.
