Objectives | |

During the course, students will learn the physiopathology of human reproduction, contraceptive methods, couple infertility and preconception checks, the main surgical pathologies and the complications related to them. Knowledge and understanding At the end of the course the student will know and understand: - the main maternal-fetal risk factors and the diagnostic-therapeutic procedures aimed at medical intervention in risk situations in labour/childbirth and postpartum; - the mechanisms of anatomical and functional adaptation to extrauterine life, both of the healthy newborn and of the newborn requiring special care, with particular attention to the preterm newborn; - The main physiological and pathological processes of pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium. - the values, theories and models of Midwifery for the assessment of the health status of the assisted person and the application of good obstetric practice in labour-childbirth and puerperium care and in obstetric, neonatological and gynaecological care; - the determinants of health, risk factors and prevention strategies applied to the promotion and support of the health of women, pregnant women, mothers giving birth, puerperal women and the newborn. |

The course is divided into 4 modules: Endocrinology (1 credit – 12 hours), Gynecology and obstetrics (1 credit – 12 hours), Obstetric-gynecological nursing sciences (2 credits – 24 hours), Internal medicine (1 credit – 12 hours). Endocrinology Module (MED 13, 1 cfu – 12 hours) Thyroid function (1 hour) Thyroid diseases: hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Basedow's disease (2 hours) Menstrual cycle disorders and amenorrhea: pituitary causes (2 hours) Endocrine disorders of pregnancy (2 hours) Diabetes and gestational diabetes and use of the microinfusor (2 hours) Metabolic syndrome, obesity, PCOS (2 hours) Endocrinological framework of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. (1 hour) Gynaecology and Obstetrics Module (MED 40, 1 cfu – 12 hours) Fetal surveillance: CTG and ACOG classification (1 hour). Dystocia of force, canal and mobile body (1 hour). Asynclitism. Management of postpartum haemorrhages. Perineal damage from childbirth (1 hour). Breech presentation. Sacral rotation (1 hour). Venous thromboembolism in pregnancy and puerperium (1 hour). Sepsis in obstetrics (1 hour). Pathologies of childbirth, postpartum and puerperium (1 hour). Operative childbirth: application of obstetric vacuum extractor and episiotomy (1 hour). Pathologies of the umbilical cord: prolapse and procidentia (1 hour). Pathology of the afterbirth: failed afterbirth due to placental accretism (1 hour). Induction of labour (1 hour). Ultrasound in the delivery room (1 hour). Obstetric-gynaecological nursing sciences module (MED 47, 2 credits – 24 hours) Sex counselling: midwifery expertise (2 hours). Medically assisted procreation regulations (law 40 of 2004) (2 hours). Difference between sterility and infertility (2 hours). ART guidelines (2 hours). Requirements for access to ART techniques (2 hours). Requirements for facilities that provide ART services (2 hours). ART techniques (2 hours). Role of the midwife in ART (2 hours). Protection of maternity and responsible paternity: contraception and law 194 (2 hours). Female genital system (2 hours). Causes of male and female sterility (2 hours). Gestation for others: clinical, psychological, legal and ethical aspects (2 hours). Internal Medicine Module (MED 9, 1 cfu – 12 hours) Polycystic ovary syndrome, risk factors, symptoms, therapy, pathogenesis, metabolic syndrome (2 hours). Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, patient management and therapy, pulmonary emphysema, pneumonia (2 hours). Arterial hypertension, risk factors, hypertension related to the reproductive system, classification, guidelines, cardiovascular risk, patient assessment, gestational hypertension and complications, pharmacological therapy (2 hours). Obesity, role of adipose tissue, dysfunctional uterine bleeding (2 hours). Pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary emphysema, deep vein thrombosis (2 hours). Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, risk factors, symptoms, therapy, pathogenesis, classification, role of paracentesis and thoracentesis, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism (2 hours). |
Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
The course includes lectures, in-depth seminars, practical activities at the patient's bedside, simulation with models and mannequins and seminar activities lasting a total of 60 hours. Attendance at classroom lessons is mandatory. To take the final exam, the student must have attended at least 75% of the hours required by the course. Attendance will be verified using the EasyAcademy software. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
The achievement of the teaching objectives is certified by passing an oral exam at the end of the course, which considers active participation in the lessons and the simultaneous reading of the distributed teaching material (slides and paper), with the preparation of a written report. The final grade is awarded in thirtieths and is calculated considering the weighted average of the grades of the individual modules. Honors requires achieving the maximum grades in all modules of the course. The exam is considered passed when the grade is greater than or equal to 18. The test allows to ascertain both the ability to know and understand, and the ability to apply the skills acquired, and the ability to present, and the ability to learn and develop solutions in independent judgment. The evaluation criteria of the exam will be ability to articulate a complex speech; ability to express oneself clearly and with appropriate language. The oral exam will verify theoretical knowledge, with reference to the physiopathology, diagnosis and treatment of the main endocrine diseases and pathologies related to pregnancy, medically assisted procreation and PMA techniques. |
