KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE INTEGRATED COURSE IS DESIGNED TO ENABLE THE STUDENT TO LEARN: THE NATURE OF BIOENERGY USED IN DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING, THEIR USE AND RISKS, THE BASICS OF THE MAIN PHYSICAL AND TECHNICAL METHODS OF DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING, THEIR OPERATION AND THE CRITERIA OF IMAGES; THE BIOCHEMICAL BASIS, PHARMACODYNAMIC AND PHARMACOKINETIC PROPERTIES, SIDE EFFECTS OF CONTRAST MEDIA; THE 'RADIOLOGICAL ANATOMY” AND RADIOLOGICAL GENERAL SEMIOTICS, SEMIOTICS AND DIAGNOSTIC PROTOCOLS OF THE MAIN DISEASES; TECHNICAL PRINCIPLES, AND GENERAL AND CLINICAL APPLICATIONS OF INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY AND RADIATION THERAPY; THE PRINCIPLES OF RADIOBIOLOGY AND RADIATION PROTECTION AND THE LEGISLATION IN FORCE. • APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: STUDENTS WILL BE INTRODUCED TO ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF NORMAL AND PATHOLOGICAL ASPECTS RELATING CONVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY, COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY, ULTRASOUND, MAGNETIC RESONANCE AND NUCLEAR MEDICINE. STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO APPLY THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING AND HAVE THE ABILITY TO SOLVE PROBLEMS ON TOPICS INCLUDED IN BROADER INTERDISCIPLINARY CONTEXTS. IN PARTICULAR, THE STUDENT SHOULD APPLY CLINICAL JUDGMENT TO DETERMINE WHICH DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING PROCEDURE OR PROCEDURES WOULD BE MORE APPROPRIATE IN THE LIGHT OF EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE AND LEARN TO ANALYZE AND INTERPRET THE RESULTS. • MAKING JUDGEMENTS: STUDENTS MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO INTEGRATE KNOWLEDGE AND HANDLE COMPLEXITY, AND FORMULATE JUDGMENTS ON THE BASIS OF AVAILABLE INFORMATION. STUDENTS MUST: BE ABLE TO DISTINGUISH NORMAL FROM ABNORMAL IMAGES; ABLE TO DISCUSS ASPECTS OF DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING OF THE MAJOR ORGANS AND SYSTEMS WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE INDICATIONS, THE DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS AND LIMITATIONS OF THE DIFFERENT IMAGING MODALITIES; DEFINE THE RATIONAL CHOICE BY PRIORITY AND SEQUENCE OF THE DIFFERENT IMAGING MODALITIES IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF MAJOR DISEASES; ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING REPORTS, COMPLEMENTING THE WRITTEN TEXT WITH THE OBSERVATION OF IMAGES AND WITH CONSIDERATION OF OTHER DIAGNOSTIC ELEMENTS. • COMMUNICATION SKILLS: STUDENTS MUST BE ABLE TO FILL REQUESTS FOR IMAGING PROCEDURES IN ORDER TO PROVIDE RELEVANT CLINICAL INFORMATION AND SETTING CLEAR DIAGNOSTIC QUESTIONS. STUDENTS MUST BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE IN A CLEAR AND UNAMBIGUOUS WAY INFORMATION NECESSARY TO EXPLAIN TO THE PATIENT THE BENEFITS AND POSSIBLE RISKS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING PROCEDURE AS WELL AS THE RESULTS OBTAINED. •LEARNING SKILLS: STUDENTS MUST HAVE DEVELOPED THOSE LEARNING SKILLS THAT WILL ENABLE THEM TO CONTINUE MEDICAL EDUCATION. MOREOVER, THE FOLLOWING LEARNING OBJECTIVES SHOULD BE ACCOMPLISHED: TO COLLECT, ORGANIZE AND INTERPRET THE INFORMATION CORRECTLY; TO COLLECT SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON PATIENT MANAGEMENT AND CLINICAL DATA; TO USE THE TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATED TO INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM; TO MANAGE AN ARCHIVE FOR ITS SUBSEQUENT ANALYSIS AND IMPROVEMENT. |
