THIS COURSE WILL PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE ON PATHOGENETIC MECHANISMS UNDERLYING THE MAIN NEOPLASTIC AND NON-NEOPLASTIC HEMOPATHIES (INCLUDING COAGULATION DISORDERS) AND SOLID NEOPLASMS, INTEGRATING BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION DERIVING FROM CLINICAL AND LABORATORY STUDIES, AS WELL AS ALLOWING ACQUISITION OF DIAGNOSTIC ELEMENTS ESSENTIAL FOR CORRECT STAGING, PROGNOSIS, AND THERAPEUTIC DECISIONS. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY KNOW AND BE ABLE TO DESCRIBE THE PRINCIPAL HEMOPATHIES AND SOLID TUMORS. KNOW AND BE ABLE TO DESCRIBE EPIDEMIOLOGY OF TUMORS AND RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN RISK FACTORS AND PROBABILITY OF NEOPLASM ONSET. KNOW AND BE ABLE TO DESCRIBE METHODS, TIMING, EFFECTIVENESS/USEFULNESS AND EXPECTED RESULTS OF SCREENING (ALSO IN RELATION TO INDIVIDUAL RISK) FOR THE MOST FREQUENT TUMORS. KNOW THE PRINCIPLES OF METHODOLOGY APPLIED TO DESIGN AND INTERPRETATION OF CLINICAL TRIALS. KNOW HOW TO READ AND INTERPRET SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE. DEEPEN KNOWLEDGE ON DIAGNOSIS, PROGNOSIS, AND THERAPY REGARDING THE FOLLOWING PATHOLOGIES: BREAST CANCER, GASTROINTESTINAL CARCINOMAS, LUNG CARCINOMAS, MELANOMA, GENITOURINARY SYSTEM TUMORS. KNOW THE PRACTICAL CONCEPTS OF CHEMOTHERAPY. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING KNOW AND BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS OF THE PRINCIPAL HEMOPATHIES AND SOLID TUMORS. KNOW AND KNOW HOW TO MANAGE SYMPTOMS RELATED TO TUMORS AND/OR SIDE EFFECTS OF CHEMOTHERAPIES AND TARGETED THERAPIES. KNOW DIAGNOSTIC-THERAPEUTIC-CARE PROCESS OF HEMOPATHIES AND SOLID TUMORS AND DEVELOP A VISION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE DIFFERENT CARE ACTIVITIES. INDEPENDENCE OF JUDGMENT THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO EVALUATE AND DEAL WITH THE INDIVIDUAL'S STATE OF HEALTH FROM A PREVENTIVE, DIAGNOSTIC, THERAPEUTIC AND REHABILITATIVE POINT OF VIEW AND INTEGRATE THIS KNOWLEDGE INTO A UNITARY VISION OF ONCOLOGICAL PATIENT. COMMUNICATION SKILLS KNOW THE TECHNIQUES OF DOCTOR-PATIENT COMMUNICATION AND KNOW HOW TO APPLY THE SAME IN THE COMMUNICATION OF ONCOLOGICAL AND ONCOHEMATOLOGICAL DIAGNOSES. ABILITY TO LEARN THE STUDENT MUST HAVE DEVELOPED THOSE LEARNING SKILLS THAT ALLOW TO CONTINUE STUDYING MOSTLY IN A SELF-DIRECTED OR AUTONOMOUS WAY, AND TO SEARCH INTO THE MAIN INTERNATIONAL DATABASES FOR THE MOST UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION ON DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF SOLID AND HEMATOLOGICAL TUMORS. |
Prerequisites | |
---|---|
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ALREADY ACQUIRED, THROUGH PREVIOUS COURSES, KNOWLEDGE ON GENERAL MECHANISMS OF NEOPLASTIC TRANSFORMATION AND PHYSIOPATHOLOGY OF TUMOR DISEASES, BOTH BLOOD AND SOLID NEOPLASMS. FURTHERMORE, THE STUDENT MUST KNOW THE PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF THE MAIN COAGULATION SYNDROMES AND DISORDERS, AS WELL AS MECHANISMS OF ACTION OF THE MOST IMPORTANT CLASSES OF ANTINEOPLASTIC DRUGS. |

THE EXAM INCLUDES A WRITTEN AND AN ORAL TEST, BOTH MANDATORY. THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS OF 15 HEMATOLOGY QUESTIONS WITH 4 POSSIBLE ANSWERS AND ONLY ONE CORRECT, AND 15 ONCOLOGY QUESTIONS WITH 5 POSSIBLE ANSWERS AND ONLY ONE CORRECT, TO BE COMPLETED IN 30 MINUTES. THE FOLLOWING SCORES ARE ASSIGNED: •2 FOR EACH CORRECT ANSWER •0 FOR EACH NO RESPONSE •0 FOR EACH INCORRECT ANSWER TO BE ADMITTED TO THE ORAL TEST, IT IS NECESSARY TO OBTAIN A MINIMUM SCORE OF 18/30 IN BOTH THE HEMATOLOGY AND ONCOLOGY WRITTEN TESTS. THE FINAL GRADE IS A WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE GRADE OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND THAT OF THE ORAL TEST. THE WRITTEN TEST EVALUATES, IN ADDITION TO SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, THE STUDENT'S LOGICAL REASONING SKILLS. IN THE ORAL TEST, THE STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE PHYSIOPATHOLOGY AND CLINICAL ASPECTS OF THE MAIN HEMATOLOGICAL DISORDERS IS ASSESSED IN A CONVERSATIONAL MANNER. REGISTRATION FOR THE EXAM MUST BE DONE ONLINE AND TESTS ARE HELD IN THE CLASSROOMS OF THE MEDICINE TEACHING CENTER OF THE AOU "SAN GIOVANNI DI DIO E RUGGI D'ARAGONA" IN SALERNO. |
