KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE ON THE GENERAL MECHANISMS OF PHARMACODYNAMICS, PHARMACOKINETICS, SYNAPTIC TRANSMISSION, MOLECULAR PHARMACOLOGY, DRUG RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, ADVERSE REACTION AND PHARMACOLOGICAL INTERACTIONS, CLINICAL USES, DOSAGE AND SIDE EFFECTS OF DRUGS EMPLOYED IN THE TREATMENT OF THE MAIN ORGAN AND SYSTEM PATHOLOGIES, PHARMACOSURVEILLANCE, GENDER MEDICINE AND PHARMACOGENETICS. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: - ABILITY TO USE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SO THAT - ABILITY TO DEFINE THE RATIONAL BASES TO CORRECTLY CHOOSE AND USE THE DRUGS ACCORDING TO THE PATHOLOGICAL CONTEXTS, THE STATE OF HEALTH OF PATIENTS AND THE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE - ABILITY TO MONITOR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THERAPY AND TO RECOGNIZE THE POSSIBLE ADVERSE EFFECTS. -ABILITY TO IDENTIFY AND CORRECTLY RESOLVE THE COMPLEX PROBLEMS RELATED TO USE OF DRUGS IN CLINICAL PRACTICE (POLYPHERAPY, DRUG INTERACTIONS, BIOEQUIVALENT USE) DEMONSTRATING AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT, LEARNING SKILLS AND COMMUNICATION |
Prerequisites | |
---|---|
THE STUDENT SHOULD KNOW THE BASICS OF CHEMISTRY, ANATOMY, BIOCHEMISTRY, GENETICS, PHYSIOLOGY, GENERAL PATHOLOGY, IMMUNOLOGY AND CLINICAL PATHOPHYSIOLOGY TO UNDERSTAND THE GENERAL MECHANISM OF DRUG ACTION AND INTERACTION OF XENOBIOTICS WITH THE BODY. This must be proved by passed tests. |

THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 64 HOURS OF LESSONS IN WHICH THE TOPICS WILL BE ADDRESSED: PHARMACODYNAMICS. PRINCIPLES OF BIOLOGICAL ASSAY. RESEARCH AND DRUG DEVELOPMENT. PHARMACOKINETICS. MOLECULAR PHARMACOLOGY. NEUROTRANSMISSION: THE AUTONOMIC AND SOMATIC MOTOR NERVOUS SYSTEMS. NEUROTRANSMISSION AND THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. INFLAMMATION, IMMUNOMODULATION, AND HEMATOPOIESIS. DRUGS AFFECTING GASTROINTESTINAL FUNCTION. MEDICATIONS TO TREAT PAIN AND MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS. CHEMOTHERAPY OF MICROBIAL AND NEOPLASTIC DISEASES; DRUG ADDICTION; PRINCIPLES OF TOXICOLOGY |
Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE INCLUDES LESSONS FOR 64 HOURS (8 CFU). ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. IN ORDER TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 75% OF THE TEACHING HOURS. THE MODE OF VERIFICATION OF PRESENCE IS MADE KNOWN BY THE TEACHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LESSONS. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF TEACHING IS VERIFIED BY PASSING THE FINAL EXAM. THE FINAL EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL TEST. THE ORAL TEST INCLUDES AN INTERVIEW WITH QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. IT IS IMPORTANT TO EVALUATE THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND THE ABILITY OF ACHIEVED UNDERSTANDING OF THE STUDENTS ON THE TOPICS DISCUSSED DURING THE TEACHING AS WELL AS TO VERIFY THE ABILITY TO EXPRESS, UTILIZING THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY, AND TO ORGANIZE THE INTERVIEW ON THE THEORETICAL TOPICS. EACH EXAM IS EVALUATED IN A THIRTIETH SCORE SCALE AND IS PASSED WITH A MINIMUM SCORE OF 18/30. The exam grade is expressed in thirtieths. Collegial evaluation of the members of the exam Commission. |
