Objectives | |

The course aims to illustrate the complexity of the fundamental issues, concepts and problems that run through the elaboration of feminist philosophies and gender theories in contemporary and international contexts. Through a critical approach and a historical-philosophical comparison with some key works of philosophical thought, the main currents of thought that play a central role within the current debate will be highlighted. The course also aims to encourage comparison with the most significant issues related to feminist studies and gender theories. Knowledge and understanding skills Students will have an understanding of: - the historical-philosophical evolution of feminist philosophies and the elaboration of gender theories in the contemporary philosophical landscape; - the methodologies and application of the historical-philosophical tools of inquiry of the discipline; - the key contemporary currents, terms and concepts in the light of feminist and gender issues; - the most recent developments in the debate around the elaboration of a historical-philosophical approach to current issues raised by the confrontation between different theories as they emerge from feminist philosophies and gender theories. Students will be able to: - navigate the diverse and complex field of feminist philosophies and gender theories with particular attention to emerging positions in contemporary philosophical debate; - use correctly and consciously the key terms and concepts of feminist philosophies and gender studies; --sharing, through comparison and bibliographical research, the results achieved also thanks to the comparison with national and international specialists; - apply their critical, analytical, interpretive and argumentative skills related to the themes and categories inherent in the discipline. Autonomy of judgment Students will be able to: - develop a solid autonomy of judgment and critique of the issues addressed; - orient themselves in the plurality of theories that fuel contemporary debate; - develop a philosophical vocabulary appropriate to the themes and issues addressed. Communication skills Students will be able to: - argue and disseminate their acquired knowledge in written and oral form, not only in academic settings, through appropriate and advanced methodologies and tools; - critically process primary and secondary bibliographic sources pertaining to gender studies; - being able to identify the fundamental and complementary elements of different theoretical positions; - be able to communicate the reasons for one's personal and original position within gender studies. Learning abilities Students will be able to: - interpret and understand, in light of the complexity of feminist philosophies and gender studies, the theoretical and scientific positions proposed from time to time; - keep abreast of the continuous transformations affecting gender studies internationally; and - plan teaching and training activities related to inclusion through the skills acquired. |

TEACHING INVOLVES 30 HOURS OF FACE-TO-FACE LECTURES. IN ADDITION TO DIRECT AND IMMERSIVE READINGS IN THE REFERENCE TEXT, THERE WILL BE TIMES OF FURTHER STUDY THROUGH DISCUSSIONS WITH INTERNATIONALLY RELEVANT EXPERTS. |

THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF AN ORAL INTERVIEW IN WHICH STUDENTS MUST DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN THEORETICAL CONTENT OF FEMINIST THOUGHT AND GENDER ISSUES. THE FINAL GRADE IS GIVEN IN THIRTIETHS AND IS OBTAINED AS THE AVERAGE OF THE EVALUATIONS ACHIEVED DURING THE INTERVIEW. THE EXAM IS CONSIDERED PASSED WHEN THE GRADE IS GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 18. THE MINIMUM GRADE LEVEL IS AWARDED WHEN ONE HAS FRAGMENTARY KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROPOSED THEORETICAL CONTENT OR SHOWS LIMITED ABILITY TO CONNECT THEORETICAL REFERENCES TO THE CONTEXT OF STUDY. THE HIGHEST LEVEL (30) IS AWARDED WHEN ONE DEMONSTRATES COMPLETE AND THOROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENT OR SHOWS A REMARKABLE ABILITY TO CONNECT THEORETICAL REFERENCES TO THE CONTEXT OF STUDY. PRAISE IS AWARDED WHEN SIGNIFICANT ARGUMENTATIVE MASTERY OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENT IS DEMONSTRATED THROUGH REMARKABLE OWNERSHIP OF LANGUAGE AND ABILITY TO ELABORATE INDEPENDENTLY EVEN IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED BY THE LECTURER. |
