Objectives
THE COURSE PROVIDES KNOWLEDGE ON THE MAIN INGREDIENTS IN COSMETIC PRODUCTS, COSMETIC TECHNOLOGY AND EU LEGISLATION WITH REGARD TO PRODUCTION, IMPORT, SALE, INDICATIONS FOR THEIR LABELLING AND MARKETING ASPECTS.
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENTS WILL KNOW:
- ACTIVE INGREDIENTS AND RAW MATERIALS USED FOR THE PRODUCTION OF COSMETIC PRODUCTS
- EUROPEAN LEGISLATION ON THE PRODUCTION, SALE AND CONTROLS OF COSMETICS
- COMMUNITY INDICATIONS FOR LABELLING AND PROCEDURES FOR MARKETING AUTHORIZATION.
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO
- SELECT COSMETIC INGREDIENTS ACCORDING TO THEIR PHYSICO-CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES;
- USE THOSE INGREDIENTS IN THE DESIGN OF COSMETIC PRODUCTS;
- SUGGEST A COSMETIC PRODUCT KNOWING ITS COMPOSITION
- CONSULT THE EUROPEAN REGULATION ON COSMETIC PRODUCTS WITH ITS ANNEXES
Prerequisites
COMPLETING THE OBJECTIVES RELATED TO ORGANIC CHEMISTRY IS REQUIRED.

Teaching Methods
THE 6 CFU (48 HOURS) COURSE ON COSMETIC PRODUCTS INCLUDES FRONTAL LECTURES (36 HOURS) AND PRACTICAL EXERCISES IN THE LABORATORY (12 HOURS).
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE COURSE OBJECTIVES IS VERIFIED THROUGH AN EXAMINATION GRADED ON A SCALE OF THIRTY, CONSISTING OF BOTH A WRITTEN AND AN ORAL TEST, WHICH IS TAKEN DURING THE SAME SCHEDULED EXAM SESSION. THE WRITTEN TEST, LASTING 90 MINUTES, PRECEDES THE ORAL TEST AND CONSISTS OF FIVE OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS (EACH SCORED FROM 0 TO 4 POINTS) AND TEN MULTIPLE-CHOICE, TRUE/FALSE, AND COMPLETION QUESTIONS (EACH SCORED FROM 0 TO 1 POINT).

THE ORAL TEST CAN EITHER BE A DISCUSSION OF THE WRITTEN TEST, IF COMPREHENSIVE OR A SEPARATE DISCUSSION LASTING A MAXIMUM OF APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES. ITS PURPOSE IS TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS AND COMPETENCE IN EXPOSITION, INCLUDING ASPECTS SUCH AS THE USE OF APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE, LOGICAL-DEDUCTIVE AND SYNTHESIS SKILLS, AS WELL AS THE ABILITY TO ARGUE EFFECTIVELY. THE WRITTEN EXAM CONSISTS OF 4 OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS, EACH WITH A MAXIMUM SCORE OF 4 POINTS, AND 14 MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS. THE ORAL PART OF THE EXAM COMPRISES A DISCUSSION OF THE WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT AND AN ORAL TEST WITH A MAXIMUM DURATION OF 20 MINUTES. THE EVALUATION IS ON A SCALE OF THIRTY (30/30). THE MINIMUM PASSING GRADE (18/30) WILL BE AWARDED TO STUDENTS WHO DEMONSTRATE A FRAGMENTED KNOWLEDGE OF THEORETICAL CONTENT AND A LIMITED ABILITY TO APPLY IT IN THE STUDY CONTEXT. THE HIGHEST GRADE (30/30) WILL BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS AND A SIGNIFICANT ABILITY TO APPLY THEM IN THE STUDY CONTEXT. HONOURS (CUM LAUDE) WILL BE AWARDED TO STUDENTS WHO SHOW A MASTERY OF TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE AND METHODOLOGIES, CAPABLE OF CRITICALLY CONNECTING ALL STUDY CONTEXTS AND APPLYING THE ACQUIRED CONCEPTS.
