Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH ADVANCED THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE FOR THE SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF YOUTH CULTURES IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY.
THE COURSE ALSO INTENDS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS FOR THE CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE TRANSFORMATIONS OF YOUTH CULTURES IN THE DIGITAL SOCIETY.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.
THE COURSE IS AIMED AT GUARANTEEING AN ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN PERSPECTIVES OF ANALYSIS AND KEY CONCEPTS OF THE DISCIPLINE; AN ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE OF STUDIES ON DIGITAL MEDIA PRACTICES OF YOUNG PEOPLE, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE USE OF DIGITAL RESOURCES FOR ARTISTIC PRACTICES AND CULTURAL REGENERATION; A SPECIFIC COMPETENCE IN THE FORMULATION OF ORIGINAL AND INNOVATIVE INTERPRETATIONS FOR THE SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF YOUTH CULTURES IN DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS AND SOCIAL WORLDS, WITH SPECIFIC ATTENTION TO THE PHENOMENA OF THE MEDIATISATION OF SOCIAL EXPERIENCE AND CONTEMPORARY CULTURES.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.
THE TEACHING ACTIVITY IS DESIGNED SO THAT THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO APPLY SOCIOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE TO THE ANALYSIS OF YOUTH CULTURES IN ORDER TO GRASP THE DYNAMICS OF TRANSFORMATION TAKING PLACE; THE ABILITY TO USE THEORETICAL CONCEPTS IN A SPECIFIC AND FUNCTIONAL MANNER TO THE COGNITIVE OBJECTIVES; THE ABILITY TO INTEGRATE THE AVAILABLE INFORMATION AND MANAGE ITS COMPLEXITY; THE ABILITY TO ELABORATE AND APPLY ORIGINAL IDEAS IN THE ANALYSIS OF THE TRANSFORMATIONS THAT YOUTH CULTURES GO THROUGH IN THE DIGITAL SOCIETY.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT
THE TEACHING IS DESIGNED FOR THE STUDENT TO BE ABLE TO ASSESS THE IMPACT OF MEDIATISATION ON THE CULTURAL PRACTICES OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN DIFFERENT SOCIAL CONTEXTS;
ASSESS THE SOCIAL IMPACT OF DIGITAL ARTISTIC PRACTICES FOR THE CULTURAL REGENERATION OF THE TERRITORIES INVOLVED; DISCERN THE SOCIAL, CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC DIMENSIONS, ON A GLOBAL AND LOCAL LEVEL, OF ARTISTIC AND COMMUNICATION PROJECTS DEVELOPED BY COLLECTIVES, FORMATIONS AND ASSOCIATIONS WITH A PREDOMINANTLY YOUTH COMPOSITION.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO PRESENT, WITH THE AID OF IT DEVICES AND TOOLS, AUTONOMOUS ANALYSES OF MEDIA-ARTISTIC PROJECTS WITH A SOCIAL AND CULTURAL IMPACT IN THE REFERENCE TERRITORIES (CAMPANIA) AND TO PRODUCE SYNTHETIC COMMUNICATIONS ON INDIVIDUAL PROCESSES AND PHENOMENA OF DIGITAL EVOLUTION (WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO FORMS OF DATAFICATION, GAMIFICATION AND PLATFORMISATION OF CULTURAL PRACTICES).

LEARNING ABILITY
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
1) USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES FOR THE STUDY OF YOUTH CULTURES;
2) UNDERSTAND, ANALYSE AND SYNTHESISE COMPLEX TEXTS;
3) CARRY OUT BASIC ACTIVITIES FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, SUCH AS DESIGNING AND ADMINISTERING QUESTIONNAIRES.

Contents
THE FIRST PART OF THE COURSE WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE MAIN THEORETICAL CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE FIELD OF THE SOCIOLOGY OF YOUTH CULTURES. IN PARTICULAR, THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON THE RESEARCH OF THE CHICAGO SCHOOL, KARL MANNHEIM, TALCOTT PARSONS (STRUCTURAL-FUNCTIONALISM), KENNETH KENISTON, AND THE BIRMINGHAM SCHOOL.
THE SECOND PART OF THE COURSE WILL BE DEVOTED TO THE STUDY OF YOUNG PEOPLE'S CULTURAL PRACTICES IN DIGITAL ENVIRONMENTS, WITH A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
FINALLY, A THIRD SESSION OF THE COURSE WILL BE DEVOTED TO SEMINARS WITH ACTIVISTS AND CULTURAL ASSOCIATIONS IN THE CAMPANIA REGION, AS PART OF THE SECOND EDITION OF THE SEMINAR CYCLE ‘RE-GENERATION. YOUNG PEOPLE, DIGITAL CULTURES AND THE TERRITORY’.
Teaching Methods
THE SOCIOLOGY OF YOUTH CULTURES COURSE COMPRISES A TOTAL OF 60 HOURS OF FRONTAL CLASSROOM TEACHING.
THE LECTURES WILL BE COMPLEMENTED BY THE PROJECTION OF AUDIOVISUAL MATERIALS AND DISCUSSION OF CASE STUDIES.
Verification of learning
THE STUDENT WILL BE ASSESSED DURING THE FINAL EXAMINATION ON THE DATES SCHEDULED IN THE EXAMINATION CALENDARS DRAWN UP BY THE DEPARTMENT.
THE EXAMINATION DOES NOT INCLUDE A MID-TERM TEST.
LEARNING WILL BE ASSESSED THROUGH A FINAL ORAL TEST, THE AIM OF WHICH IS TO VERIFY THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT.
THE EVALUATION IS EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS (MINIMUM MARK 18/30, MAXIMUM MARK 30/30 WITH POSSIBLE HONOURS), TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE FOLLOWING PARAMETERS: MASTERY OF THE CONTENTS AND THEORETICAL REFERENCES, CLARITY OF THE ARGUMENTS, LANGUAGE PROPERTY.
