Objectives | |

The course aims to provide the students with advanced theoretical and methodological knowledge for the sociological analysis of the relationships between the social development of sporting activities, contemporary media systems (also reconstructed in their historical-productive and cultural dynamics) and the processes of social communication affecting the evolution of sporting cultures. The course also intends to develop the ability to apply the knowledge learned regarding the socio-cultural nodes between media, communication and sport, with a view to disseminating a more advanced stage of sport citizenship and the cultural and communicative dimension (in particular for as regards digital audiovisual technologies) increasingly connected to the socio-cultural development of sport. Knowledge and skills: The teaching will allow students to acquire an advanced knowledge of the relationships between the media and communicative dimension and the carrying out and social diffusion of sporting activities, also as a field of a specific study discipline, with particular reference to how communication activities and the various uses of the media (both analogue and digital), in the time of advancing modernization and the penetrating technologization of life and society, have affected the socio-cultural identity of sport and its very management and social impact. The teaching will also allow the development of understanding skills aimed at developing new, responsible and clearly methodological interpretations, for the sociological analysis of the relationships between media, cultural models, sporting and physical activities. Ability to apply knowledge and skills: The teaching will allow students to acquire skills and abilities to apply their knowledge and integrate the information available for the analysis, design, organization and management of media activities and communication services for sport and physical activities and social well-being, with a view to an integrated relationship between media skills and advanced cultural models for sport. The course also aims for students to demonstrate that they have acquired the ability to design, coordinate and direct management and direction structures of media systems for communication aimed at the development of sporting activities within associations, clubs and sports organisations, developing new strategies aimed at promoting active policies for sport, according to appropriate models for the dissemination of intelligent and responsible citizenship and the promotion of well-being. |

Contents | |

The course will be divided into three parts. The first part is dedicated to introducing the fundamental theoretical concepts of the sociology of sports communication (mediatisation of sport, the media-sports complex, the SMS triangle, etc.). The second part of the course will focus on sports communication in the digital era, with a special focus on practices, narratives and future scenarios. A specific focus will be on the practices of platformisation of the cycling experience. The third part of the course will be reserved for the third edition of the seminar series ‘The Dream Machine. Sport, media, literature’. This section of the course will host workshops and seminars on the narrative forms of sport in different historical, geographical and cultural contexts. |
Teaching Methods | |

The Media Communication Sport course comprises a total of 48 hours of frontal classroom teaching. The lectures will be supplemented by the projection of audiovisual materials and the discussion of case studies. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
The student will be assessed during the final examination on the dates scheduled in the examination calendars drawn up by the Department. The examination does not include a mid-term test. Learning will be assessed through a final oral test, the aim of which is to verify the knowledge and skills acquired by the student. The evaluation is expressed in thirtieths (minimum mark 18/30, maximum mark 30/30 with possible honours), taking into account the following parameters: mastery of the contents and theoretical references, clarity of the arguments, language property. |
