OBJECTIVES THE COURSE IS AIMED AT PROVIDING BASIC CONCEPTS ON STRUCTURE, MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR AND PROPERTIES, EVEN AFTER HEAT TREATMENT, OF METAL ALLOYS USED FOR STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS IN THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY. THE STUDENTS ARE GUIDED TO UNDERSTAND THE DEPENDENCE AMONG MATERIAL PROPERTIES, THEIR TRANSFORMATIONS AND POSSIBLE USE IN ENGINEERING. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING CHARACTERISTICS AND STRUCTURE OF METALLIC MATERIALS MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF METALLIC MATERIALS INFLUENCE OF HEAT TREATMENTS ON THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF METAL ALLOYS APPLIED KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING READ AND INTERPRET THE STATE DIAGRAM OF A TWO-COMPONENT SYSTEM. ANALYZE THE TTT DIAGRAMS. DETERMINE THE STRESS-STRAIN CURVES FROM THE MACHINE DIAGRAM OF A TENSILE TEST. INTERPRET THE RESULTS OF THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION TESTS. JUDGMENT AUTONOMY CHOOSE THE APPROPRIATE MECHANICAL TEST AND INTERPRET THE RESULTS FOR THE SELECTION OF THE MATERIALS COMMUNICATION SKILLS PRESENTING THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE AND THE CALCULATION PROCEDURES WITH PROPER LANGUAGE. |

TEACHING METHODS TEACHING INCLUDES THEORETICAL CLASSES AND NUMERICAL EXERCISES; NAMELY, THE PROBLEMS ARE INTENDED TO BE DISCUSSED IN COOPERATION BEFORE THE EVENTUAL SOLUTION BY THE PROFESSOR, SO THAT EACH STUDENT CAN PROCEED TO SELF-EVALUATION OF THE PREPARATION. DURING THE COURSE EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS AND INTERACTIVE SIMULATIONS ARE EVEN PROPOSED TO THE PURPOSE OF EASIER UNDERSTANDING OF THE TOPICS. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST AND A MANDATORY ORAL TEST. THE WRITTEN TEST IS PASSED IF THE STUDENT REACHES AT LEAST 18/30; THE TEST CONSISTS IN CARRYING OUT 5 NUMERICAL EXERCISES, IN 2 HOURS, TO ASSESS THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODS OF PROBLEM SOLVING RELATING TO MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR AND CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF METALS, BINARY DIAGRAMS, HEAT TREATMENTS AND MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION TESTS. THE ORAL EXAM IS AIMED AT VERIFYING THE LANGUAGE AND THE ABILITY TO ILLUSTRATE THE CONTENT OF THE COURSE. THE FINAL MARK IS DETERMINED BY THE AVERAGE OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND THE ORAL TEST; HONORS ARE AWARDED IF THE STUDENT SHOWS AUTONOMOUS PROCESSING SKILLS AND LOGICAL CONNECTION AMONG THE COURSE TOPICS. SUFFICIENCY IS REACHED IF THE STUDENT SHOWS THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR OF METALLIC MATERIALS, OF THE STEEL DIAGRAM AND OF THE HEAT TREATMENTS OF STEELS. DURING THE COURSE IT IS POSSIBLE TO CARRY OUT TWO PARTIAL TESTS, APPROXIMATELY AFTER HALF OF THE CLASSES AND AT THE END. THE FIRST TEST IS ATTRIBUTED A WEIGHT OF 25%; THE SECOND TEST, EVEN INCLUDING EXERCISES CONCERNING THE FIRST PART OF THE COURSE, IS ASSIGNED A WEIGHT OF 75%; IF THE OVERALL MARK OF THE PARTIAL TESTS EXCEEDS 18/30, THE STUDENT IS EXEMPTED FROM THE WRITTEN TEST. THE EXEMPTION IS ONLY VALID FOR THE EXAM SESSION FOLLOWING THE COURSE. |
