Objectives
(KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING): THE COURSE IS DESIGNED TO ILLUSTRATE IN A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE, THE CONCEPTS AND FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF KNOWLEDGE OF ARCHAEOLOGY AND HISTORY OF ART.
THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THE COURSE IS TO OFFER ELEMENTS OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE HUGE ITALIAN CULTURAL HERITAGE, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE SOUTHERN GEOGRAPHICAL CONTEXT.
THE FINAL OBJECTIVE IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CRITICAL SENSE IN THE USE AND BROADCAST, AT VARIOUS LEVELS, OF CULTURAL RESOURCES FOR THE PROMOTION OF ECONOMIC AND ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITIES.
THROUGH THE ACQUISITION OF SPECIFIC SKILLS, THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO OFFER A CORRECT INTERPRETATION OF THE WORKS OF ART BY PROPOSING AN ADEQUATE GEOGRAPHICAL AND HISTORICAL CONTEXT AND TO IDENTIFY ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES, MONUMENTS AND THE SPECIFIC LANGUAGE OF THE MAIN PROTAGONISTS OF THE FIGURATIVE CONTEXT OF REFERENCE. ON THIS BASIS, THE COURSE AIMS TO HIGHLIGHT THE NECESSARY INTERPLAY BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE AND CONSERVATION, EVEN FOR THE MOST SUITABLE ENHANCEMENT OF CULTURAL HERITAGE. THROUGH THE HISTORICAL AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF PARTICULARLY SIGNIFICANT ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND ART HISTORY CONTEXTS IN SOUTHERN ITALY, THE COURSE AIMS TO OFFER KNOWLEDGE, UNDERSTANDING AND METHODOLOGICAL APPROACHES FOR THE STUDY OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND ART WORKS FROM ANCIENT TO MODERN TIMES. TO CONCEIVE AN ADEQUATE HISTORICAL RECONSTRUCTION AND A BETTER CRITICAL ANALYSIS THE STYLISTIC SURVEY IS SUPPORTED BY THE ICONOGRAPHIC STUDY AND BY DOCUMENTARY AND LITERARY SOURCES. THUS, THE STUDENT STRENGTHENS HIS METHODOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING IN A ESSENTIALLY HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE.

(APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING): THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO PROVIDE A CORRECT INTERPRETATION OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND ART WORKS CONSIDERED PARTICULARLY SIGNIFICANT THROUGH A PROPER HISTORICAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION AND TO CHARACTERIZE THE SPECIFIC STYLE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ARTISTS WORKING IN CAMPANIA, WITHIN A WIDE TIME FRAME. HE IS ABLE TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING TO RECONSTRUCT HOMOGENEOUS ART WORK CONTEXTS AND TO COMPARE THIS ARTISTIC PRODUCTION WITH DIFFERENT AND INTERFERING CULTURAL LANDSCAPES. THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO CONCEIVE AND GIVE CRITICAL INTERPRETATION TO DATA AND HISTORICAL FACTS VALUABLE TO DEEPEN ONE OR MORE SPECIFIC AREAS OF INTEREST, ALSO INDEPENDENTLY IDENTIFIED. THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO COMMUNICATE, USING ADEQUATE LANGUAGE REGISTERS, TO AN AUDIENCE OF NON-SPECIALISTS THE SKILLS ACQUIRED, SUITABLY EXPLAINING HIS INTERPRETATIVE CHOICES. THE STUDENT ACQUIRES THE SKILLS OF PROPERLY USING THE METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS AND DATA NECESSARY TO FURTHER ENRICH HIS KNOWLEDGE AND TO APPLY THESE COMPETENCES TO THE VALORIZATION AT DIVERSIFIED LEVELS, OF CULTURAL RESOURCES FOR THE PROMOTION OF ECONOMIC AND TOURIST ENTERPRISES.
Prerequisites
NONE PREREQUISITE REQUIRED.
HOWEVER, IT IS STRONGLY SUGGEST THE KNOWLEDGE OF GEOGRAPHY AND OF THE MAIN HISTORICAL EVENTS IN SOUTHERN ITALY DURING THE MIDDLE AGES. ALSO A GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN CULTURAL SITES AND UNESCO MONUMENTS IS RECOMMENDED.

THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO PHASES. FIRSTLY, WILL BE EXPLAINED THE MAIN CONCEPTS AND FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF MEDIEVAL ART HISTORY, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO SOUTH ITALY, IN ORDER TO CRITICALLY ANALYZE SIGNIFICANT WORK OF ARTS AND CULTURAL SITES. THE HISTORICAL CITY CENTRE OF SALERNO WILL BE ASSUMED AS CASE STUDY. THEN, ELEMENTS OF KNOWLEDGE OF OFFICIAL INSTITUTIONS THAT OPERATE ON CULTURAL HERITAGE WILL BE PRESENTED AS TO EXPLAIN THE SYSTEM OF CONSERVATION AND PROMOTION, IN ORDER TO CONNECT THE ART-HISTORICAL AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS TO HYPOTHESIS OF PROMOTION OF ECONOMIC AND ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITIES.
ON-FIELD SURVEY WILL BE ORGANIZED AND STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO RECOGNIZE CULTURAL RESOURCES IN THE SOUTHERN GEOGRAPHICAL CONTEXT, TO CONDUCT ACTIVITIES OF CRITICAL ANALYSIS IN HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE AND TO RECOGNIZE POSSIBILITY OF CONSERVATION AND PROMOTION DURING PRATICAL EXERCISES.

3. COMPREHENSION OF THE ARTISTIC PROBLEMS THAT CONCERN WORK OF ARTS AND CULTURAL SITES AND ABILITY OF RE-CONTEXTUALISING THEM IN THE HISTORICAL, CULTURAL AND EVIRONAMENTAL FRAMEWORK
4. AUTONOMY OF REFLECTION AND ABILITY OF CONNECTING THE ART-HISTORICAL ANALYSIS TO THE MAIN ISSUES THAT CONCERN PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF THE CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT
