Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE FUNDAMENTAL NOTIONS OF THE SUBJECT AND SYSTEMATIC KNOWLEDGE OF ITALIAN IN ITS DIACHRONIC, SYNCHRONIC, GEO-LINGUISTIC AND SOCIOLINGUISTIC ASPECTS. IN ADDITION, IT WILL PROVIDE SPECIFIC TRAINING IN THE USE AND MASTERY OF ITALIAN SO THAT STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO DEVELOP AND REINFORCE THEIR COMPETENCE AT A COMMUNICATIVE, LINGUISTIC AND METALINGUISTIC LEVEL, WHICH IS CRUCIAL FOR ALL AREAS OF STUDY AND ALSO GOOD PREPARATION FOR WRITING THE THIRD-YEAR DISSERTATION.
Prerequisites
GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF ORAL AND WRITTEN ITALIAN; BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF LINGUISTICS.

THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE A PROFILE OF CONTEMPORARY ITALIAN AND OF THE SOCIOLINGUISTIC SITUATION OF TODAY’S ITALY, WITH THE ESSENTIAL OUTLINES OF THE HISTORY OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE.
THE FOLLOWING TOPICS WILL BE DEALT WITH:
- THE CONCEPTS OF STANDARD ITALIAN AND LINGUISTIC NORM;
- THE TYPICAL ELEMENTS OF TODAY’S SPOKEN ITALIAN FROM PHONETIC, MORPHOLOGICAL AND SYNTACTIC POINTS OF VIEW;
-ITALIAN DIALECTS AND REGIONAL VARIETIES OF ITALIAN;
- WRITTEN, SPOKEN AND TRANSMITTED VARIETIES OF ITALIAN;
- VARIETIES LINKED TO LINGUISTIC CODES AND REGISTERS;
- SOCIAL VARIETIES.
