AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A SOLID KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY OF ITALIAN LANGUAGE FROM ITS ORIGIN TO THE PRESENT DAY. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL: - KNOW ABOUT THE MAIN STEPS OF THE EVOLUTION OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE BEGINNING WITH THE FIRST TEXTS UP TO THE PRESENT DAY; - ACQUIRE THE MAIN PRINCIPLES OF THE ITALIAN HISTORICAL GRAMMAR; - LEARN TO ANALYSE VARIOUS ITALIAN TEXTS FROM A HISTORICAL-LINGUISTIC POINT OF VIEW. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - USE THE APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC TERMINOLOGY; - CONTEXTUALIZE, FROM A HISTORICAL-LINGUISTIC POINT OF VIEW, VARIOUS TYPES OF ITALIAN TEXTS AND ESTABLISH RELATIONS WITH HISTORIES OF OTHER EUROPEAN LANGUAGES; - RECOGNIZE AND ANALYSE THE MAIN LINGUISTIC FEATURES IN ITALIAN LITERARY AND NON-LITERARY TEXTS. MAKING JUDGEMENTS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - CRITICALLY EXAMINE ITALIAN TEXTS OF VARIOUS TYPES; - MAKE INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENTS ON PROBLEMS RELATING TO THE HISTORY OF ITALIAN LANGUAGE. COMMUNICATION SKILLS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO CLEARLY AND CORRECTLY PRESENT THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. LEARNING SKILLS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - DEVELOP CRITICAL THINKING; - SHARE INFORMATION, HYPOTHESES, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS ON LINGUISTIC AND EXTRALINGUISTIC DATA RELATING TO THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE; - USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND DIGITAL RESOURCES. |

THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE ESSENTIAL OUTLINES OF THE HISTORY OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE, STARTING FROM THE FIRST PIECES OF EVIDENCE IN VERNACULAR UP TO CONTEMPORARY ITALIAN. PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE GIVEN, OVER CENTURIES UNTIL THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY, TO DEBATES AND DISCUSSIONS ON THE CONSTITUTION OF THE LINGUISTIC NORM AND ON THE ISSUE OF LANGUAGE (BEGINNING FROM DANTE’S THOUGHTS IN HIS DE VULGARI ELOQUENTIA). SOME HOURS WILL BE DEVOTED TO EXERCISE SESSIONS IN LAB LEGIT (LESSICO E GRAMMATICA DELL’ITALIANO) IN WHICH STUDENTS WILL BECOME FAMILIAR WITH SOME FUNDAMENTAL TOOLS FOR THE STUDY OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE, IN PARTICULAR HISTORICAL DICTIONARIES OF ITALIAN AND THE TESORO DELLA LINGUA ITALIANA DELLE ORIGINI. |
