Objectives
AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A SOLID KNOWLEDGE OF THE VARIETIES OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND TO IDENTIFY THE PLACE THE LANGUAGES OF THE MEDIA OCCUPY AMONG CONTEMPORARY ITALIAN VARIETIES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT:
- WILL ACQUIRE THE BASIS OF THE MEDIA LINGUISTICS;
- WILL BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE MAIN VARIETIES AND GRAMMATICAL STRUCTURES OF ITALIAN, IN ITS SYNCHRONIC ASPECTS;
- WILL REINFORCE THE COMPETENCE OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE, AT A COMMUNICATIVE, LINGUISTIC AND METALINGUISTIC LEVEL.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- EXAMINE NOT ONLY THE WRITTEN LANGUAGE OF MEDIA, BUT ALSO MEDIA SPEECH
- RECOGNIZE THE LINGUISTIC STRUCTURES IN WRITTEN AND SPOKEN ITALIAN MEDIA TEXTS;
- RECOGNIZE VARIETIES AND REGISTERS OF CONTEMPORARY ITALIAN, AND USE THEM IN APPROPRIATE CONTEXTS;
- USE THE APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC TERMINOLOGY.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- EVALUATE MEDIA TEXTS OF DIFFERENT TYPES AND INTERPRET THEM CRITICALLY;
- RECOGNIZE ANALOGIES, DISSIMILARITIES AND RECURRENT TRAITS BETWEEN DIFFERENT MASS COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPRET THEM INDEPENDENTLY.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO CLEARLY AND CORRECTLY PRESENT THE LEARNT CONTENTS.

LEARNING SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- DEVELOP CRITICAL THINKING;
- SHARE INFORMATION, HYPOTHESES, LINGUISTIC PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS ON THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE OF MEDIA;
- USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND DIGITAL RESOURCES.
Prerequisites
ACTIVE AND PASSIVE MOTHER-TONGUE KNOWLEDGE OF ITALIAN IS REQUIRED, AS WELL AS THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE GRAMMAR, THE STRUCTURES, HISTORY AND VARIETIES OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE. SOME EXPERIENCE IN THE PRODUCTION OF WRITTEN AND ORAL ESSAYS IS ASSUMED.
Contents
THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF THE MAIN RESEARCH ON THE SUBJECT AND THE EMPIRICAL EXAMINATION OF SAMPLE TEXTS, THE VARIETIES OF ITALIAN IN USE IN THE MASS MEDIA AND IN PARTICULAR IN CINEMA IN ALL ITS FORMS AND GENRES WILL BE EXPLORED.
Teaching Methods
DURING A FIRST PHASE OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL BE INTRODUCED TO THE FUNDAMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VARIETY OF ITALIAN IN USE IN SELECTED MASS MEDIA AND THE CRITICAL TOOLS FOR RECOGNISING, INTERPRETING AND DESCRIBING THEM. IN THE SECOND HALF, STUDENTS WILL INDIVIDUALLY PRESENT THEIR OWN EXAMINATIONS OF SIMILAR TEXTS, EXPANDING ON THE CORPUS AND THE MODELS ON THE OCCASION.
Verification of learning
IT IS PLANNED TO PROVIDE IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK TO THE ORAL PRESENTATIONS, WHICH WILL NOT BE GRADED. ON THE BASIS OF THIS EXPERIENCE, STUDENTS WILL THEN WRITE A PAPER RELEVANT TO THE COURSE TOPIC, WHICH WILL THEN BE FORMALLY ASSESSED.
