THE LESSONS WILL PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE ELEMENTS TO STUDY THE MECHANISMS UNDERLYING THE DISEASE PHENOMENON. IN PARTICULAR, THE AETIOLOGY, PATHOGENESIS AND BIOLOGICAL AND MOLECULAR BASES WITH WHICH DISEASES, INFECTIOUS AND OTHERWISE, PRODUCE SPECIFIC SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS WILL BE EXPLORED. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING AT THE END OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL KNOW AND UNDERSTAND: - THE BIOLOGICAL PHENOMENA OF THE MAIN MECHANISMS OF FUNCTIONING OF ORGANS AND SYSTEMS, SPECIFICALLY THE PHYSIOLOGY OF HUMAN REPRODUCTION AND EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT; - THE PHYSIOPATHOLOGY OF THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM AND ITS ENDOCRINE AND METABOLIC REGULATION, IN THE VARIOUS STAGES OF A WOMAN'S LIFE, AIMED AT BUILDING THE SPECIFIC SKILLS OF THE PROFESSIONAL PROFILE OF THE MIDWIFE; - THE FUNDAMENTALS OF MICROBIOLOGY IN ORDER TO RECOGNIZE THE BIOLOGICAL AND PATHOGENETIC PROPERTIES THAT UNDERLIE THE DIAGNOSIS OF INFECTIONS CAUSED BY PATHOGENIC MICROORGANISMS FOR HUMANS, IN PARTICULAR THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR INFECTIONS OF THE UROGENITAL SYSTEM AND PRE- AND PERINATAL INFECTIONS; - THE DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH, RISK FACTORS AND PREVENTION STRATEGIES APPLIED TO THE PROMOTION AND SUPPORT OF THE HEALTH OF WOMEN, PREGNANT WOMEN, MOTHERS GIVING BIRTH, PUERPERAL WOMEN AND THE UNBORN CHILD. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING AT THE END OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO TRACE THE MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR CAUSES OF PATHOLOGIES AND INTEGRATE BIOLOGICAL AND LABORATORY KNOWLEDGE WITH CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE, EVALUATE THEIR COMPLEXITY AND FORMULATE JUDGMENTS BASED ON AVAILABLE EVIDENCE. |

The teaching presupposes basic biological knowledge concerning metabolism and cellular substructure, basic biochemical knowledge concerning the structure and function of the main classes of biological macromolecules. Propaedeutic to this teaching activity is the teaching of Notions of physics, biochemistry and applied biology. |

THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO 4 MODULES: GENERAL PATHOLOGY (2 CREDITS – 24 HOURS), CLINICAL PATHOLOGY (1 CREDIT – 12 HOURS), MICROBIOLOGY AND CLINICAL MICROBIOLOGY (1 CREDIT – 12 HOURS), LABORATORY MEDICINE (2 CREDITS – 24 HOURS). GENERAL PATHOLOGY MODULE (MED 04, 2 CFU – 24 HOURS) DEFINITION OF DISEASE; CONCEPTS OF HOMEOSTASIS, ETIOLOGY AND PATHOGENESIS (2 HOURS). CAUSES OF DISEASE: PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL AGENTS (3 HOURS). CELLULAR DAMAGE, MODES OF ADAPTATION: HYPOTROPHY, HYPERTROPHY, ATROPHY, HYPERPLASIA, METAPLASIA, HYPOPLASIA, APLASIA, DYSPLASIA (4 HOURS). CELL DEATH: APOPTOSIS, NECROSIS AND AUTOPHAGY (2 HOURS). ACUTE AND CHRONIC INFLAMMATION (4 HOURS). TISSUE REPAIR AND WOUND HEALING (2 HOURS). ONCOLOGY: NEOPLASTIC TRANSFORMATION; BENIGN TUMORS AND MALIGNANT TUMORS; TUMOR CLASSIFICATION (GRADING AND STAGING); DEFINITION AND MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF ONCOGENES AND TUMOR SUPPRESSORS (4 HOURS). IMMUNITY AND IMMUNOPATHOLOGY: NATURAL IMMUNITY, ACQUIRED IMMUNITY, AUTOIMMUNITY (3 HOURS). CLINICAL CASES OF VENOUS THROMBOEMBOLISM IN PREGNANCY AND PUERPERIUM. THROMBOPROPHYLAXIS (3 HOURS). COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT. ANEMIA. SIDERODEPRIVATION ANEMIA. CLINICAL CASES (2 HOURS). THE COURSE INCLUDES LECTURES AND SEMINAR ACTIVITIES FOR A TOTAL DURATION OF 72 HOURS. ATTENDANCE AT CLASSROOM LESSONS IS MANDATORY AND ACCESS TO THE EXAM REQUIRES ATTENDANCE OF AT LEAST 75% OF THE HOURS SCHEDULED FOR THE COURSE. ATTENDANCE WILL BE VERIFIED USING THE EASYACADEMY SOFTWARE. |
Verification of learning | |

The achievement of the objectives of the course is verified by passing an oral exam lasting approximately 15 minutes for each module with an evaluation in thirtieths. The test allows to ascertain the ability of knowledge and understanding, the ability to apply the skills acquired and the ability to present. Furthermore, it will allow to verify the theoretical knowledge, with reference to the basic mechanisms of human pathology, the meaning of laboratory tests, the cellular and molecular bases of microbial activity, microorganism/host interactions and related diagnostic-clinical aspects. The final grade of the exam of the integrated course is the weighted average of the grades of the individual modules. Honors requires achieving the maximum grades in all the modules of the course. |
