Objectives
The teaching objectives are harmonized with the overall context of the master's degree
program, which aims to train a professional expert in the field of monitoring, assessment
and management of natural and anthropogenic hazards, as well as land management.
Specifically, the HYGIENE course aims to provide the student with knowledge of the
basic elements of public health and hygiene applied to humans and the environment,
together with an understanding of the application issues related to the role of the biologist
in organizations working in health, the environment and the food chain.

Knowledge and
comprehension
skills

The course specifically aims to provide the student with knowledge on:
- the general concepts of Public Health, disease prevention as well as health promotion
- the basics of Epidemiology, organization of Health Systems, health planning and
economics
- infectious diseases, infections, their transmission, epidemic patterns and prophylaxis
- the main examples of airborne, oro-fecal, parenteral, and sexually transmitted diseases.
care-related infections, as well as poor hygiene and foodborne infections
- health and prevention at various stages of life, chronic-degenerative diseases, nutrition
and foods
- health and the environment, pollution, major environmental matrices: water, air, soil, and
health in living and working environments.

Ability to apply

- apply acquired knowledge in framing and solving problems related to the scientific and
professional role
- consciously enter the work chain for activities in clinical and environmental laboratory,
facility management and/or health and food systems
- work in teams in the field of disease and environmental prevention and control

- independently define content on Public Health topics
- apply critical sense and reasoning in evaluation and choice of study method
- develop observation, reflection and discussion of found and/or processed data
