THIS COURSE INVOLVES A GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE EVOLUTION OF FRENCH DRAMA. THROUGH RESPONDING TO TEXTS, STUDENTS CONSIDER HOW LANGUAGE, STRUCTURE AND CONVENTIONS OPERATE IN A VARIETY OF DRAMATIC WORKS AND HOW PLAYS ARE DEEPLY INFLUENCED BY THEIR IDEOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXT. WHILE GAINING AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE STYLISTIC AND DRAMATURGICAL DEVICES USED BY THE AUTHORS, STUDENTS WILL ALSO DEVELOP ANALYTICAL AND CRITICAL THINKING ABOUT FRENCH DRAMA IN A CHRONOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE AND DISCUSS EVOLUTION AND PERSISTENCY OF SPECIFIC THEATRICAL GENRES. |

STUDENTS’ ABILITY OF SPEAKING ABOUT THE MAIN THEMES OF FRENCH DRAMA’S EVOLUTION AND ANALYSING LITERARY TEXTS WILL ALSO BE TESTED. THE KNOWLEDGE OF CRITICAL WORKS/ESSAYS LISTED IN THE PROGRAMME IS ALSO NEEDED. LITERARY WORKS MUST BE READ IN FRENCH. |
