THIS COURSE INVOLVES A GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE EVOLUTION OF FRENCH DRAMA AND THEATRICAL PRACTICES. THROUGH THE ANALYSIS OF ANTHOLOGICAL TEXTS AND THE READING OF PLAYS, STUDENTS WILL BE INITIATED TO THE STUDY OF FRENCH THEATRICAL LITERATURE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING - LEARN ABOUT THE EVOLUTION OF FRENCH DRAMATIC GENRES - LEARN ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEATRICAL PRACTICES IN FRANCE - KNOW THE MAIN AESTHETIC AND LITERARY MOVEMENTS OF FRENCH MODERNITY - UNDERSTAND THE MAIN FEATURES OF A PLAY AND ITS DRAMATURGICAL STRUCTURE - UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEXT AND PERFORMANCE IN AN HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING -ABILITY TO APPLY LITERARY CRITICISM TO ANALYSE DRAMATIC WORKS -USE THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED IN THE FIELD OF LITERATURE TO MANAGE ISSUES RELATING TO LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL EXCHANGES AND TO THE RECEPTION, DISSEMINATION AND PROMOTION OF CULTURAL PRODUCTS IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE MAKING JUDGEMENTS -HAVE A CRITICAL AND PERSONAL APPROACH TO PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOURCES -BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE A SPECIFIC CULTURAL PRODUCT AND PLACE IT IN THE CORRECT HISTORICAL-LITERARY CONTEXT COMMUNICATION SKILLS -ORGANIZE A COMPLEX DISCOURSE (BOTH IN WRITTEN AND ORAL FORM) ABOUT PROBLEMS, AUTHORS AND WORKS IN THE SYLLABUS, USING EXAMPLES FROM THEATRICAL LITERATURE THAT REINFORCE THEIR VALIDITY AND EXPLAIN THEIR COMPLEX OPERATIONS LEARNING SKILLS -USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND ONLINE DATABASES -CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF KNOWLEDGE THROUGH TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE AND THE CORRECT IT TOOLS |

THE COURSE COMBINES LECTURES AND DISCUSSIONS ON LITERARY HISTORY WITH READING AND ANALYSIS OF SOME SIGNIFICANT WORKS, EITHER IN THEIR ENTIRETY OR IN ANTHOLOGICAL FORM. LECTURES DELIVERED IN FRENCH AND ITALIAN. DURING THE COURSE, SOME EXCERPTS SELECTED ANTHOLOGICALLY, AS WELL AS SOME SIGNIFICANT ACTS FROM THE PROPOSED WORKS, WILL BE READ AND ANALYZED TOGETHER WITH THE STUDENTS. CRITICAL LITERATURE INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM WILL ALSO BE DISCUSSED DURING THE COURSE. REGULAR ATTENDANCE IS RECOMMENDED, AS IT ALLOWS ACCESS TO THE INTERMEDIATE EXAM. |

THE STUDENT IS INVITED TO PRESENT, PARTLY IN ITALIAN AND PARTLY IN FRENCH, THE CONTRIBUTION TO THE EVOLUTION OF THE THEATRICAL GENRE BY AN AUTHOR AND A WORK IN THE PROGRAM, AND TO COMPARE IT WITH WHAT THE PRECEDING AND SUBSEQUENT LITERARY TRADITION PROPOSES. FACED WITH A SIGNIFICANT PASSAGE TAKEN FROM ONE OF THE WORKS IN THE PROGRAM, THE STUDENT IS ASKED TO HIGHLIGHT THE CULTURAL AND IDEOLOGICAL EMERGENCES THAT MAKE IT A PRODUCT OF ITS TIME, BUT ALSO TO GRASP THE EXPRESSIONS THAT DETERMINE THE UNIQUENESS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL AUTHOR. THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE THE STYLISTIC AND RHETORICAL DEVICES PRESENT IN THE ANTHOLOGICAL PASSAGES THAT WILL BE PRESENTED TO THEM - TAKEN FROM THE WORKS IN THE PROGRAM - AND TO CRITICALLY COMMENT ON THEIR FUNCTION WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE DRAMATIC STRUCTURE. CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO: THE QUALITY OF THE PRESENTATION, IN TERMS OF THE USE OF APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE THE COMPLETENESS AND RICHNESS OF THE DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE THE ABILITY FOR TRANSVERSAL CORRELATION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND, WHERE POSSIBLE, WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES THE AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT A COMPREHENSIVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN TOPICS OF THE COURSE CORRESPONDS TO A SUFFICIENT EVALUATION. THE STUDENT REACHES THE LEVEL OF EXCELLENCE IF THEY PROVE CAPABLE OF ADDRESSING UNUSUAL ISSUES (OR NOT EXPRESSLY ADDRESSED IN THE LECTURES) AND OF PRESENTING THEIR OWN CONSIDERATIONS SUPPORTED BY LITERARY EXAMPLES TAKEN FROM WORKS THAT MAY NOT BE EXPLICITLY INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM. AT THE END OF THE COURSE, ATTENDING STUDENTS ARE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A WRITTEN TEST PARTIALLY REPLACING THE ORAL EXAM. THIS TEST CONSISTS OF FOUR OPEN QUESTIONS ON LITERARY HISTORY ISSUES AND ON ONE OF THE WORKS PROVIDED BY THE PROGRAM, WHICH WILL BE AGREED UPON WITH THE STUDENTS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CLASSES. A GRADE IS ASSIGNED TO THE OUTCOME OF THE TEST, WHICH IS CONVERTED INTO THIRTIETHS FOLLOWING THE ORAL EXAM, WHICH WILL FOCUS ON THE OTHER PARTS OF THE PROGRAMME. TO TAKE PART IN THE TEST, STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE ATTENDED 80% OF THE CLASSES. |
