Objectives
THE COURSE PROMOTES THE SOCIOLOGICAL READING OF THE PHENOMENA OF CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION, ORIENTING TOWARDS A CONSCIOUS USE OF COMMUNICATION TO FOSTER INCLUSION AND INTEGRATION. THE LABORATORY IN MODULE WITH THE TEACHING PROPOSES THE STUDY OF A CASE OF HYBRIDISATION AND CONTAMINATION BETWEEN DIFFERENT CULTURES, PROPOSES A HISTORICAL AND LINGUISTIC-LITERARY ANALYSIS, COMPARES SUCCESSES AND CRITICALITIES.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
KNOWLEDGE AND CAPACITY TO UNDERSTAND:
TO KNOW THE MAIN THEORIES OF THE SOCIOLOGY OF CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION AND TO LEARN THE MORE ADVANCED DEVELOPMENTS IN THIS DISCIPLINE, WHICH STRONGLY TOUCH UPON THE ISSUES OF INTERCULTURALITY AND INTERCULTURAL MEDIATION PRACTICES.

CAPABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
TO KNOW HOW TO ANALYSE SPECIFIC CASES OF CULTURAL CONFLICTS FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF THE SOCIOLOGY OF CULTURE AND THE METHODS OF RESPECTFUL COMMUNICATION THAT FOSTER INCLUSION AND INTEGRATION. THROUGH THE WORKSHOP ATTACHED
TO THE TEACHING, THE STUDENT LEARNS TO READ AND INTERPRET CULTURAL PROCESSES USING HISTORICAL AND LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS.

THE TEACHING OF ‘SOCIAL RESEARCH ON COMMUNICATION AND INTERCULTURAL PROCESSES’ AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH AN IN-DEPTH UNDERSTANDING OF INTERCULTURAL DYNAMICS AND THE CHALLENGES RELATED TO IMMIGRATION, PROMOTING CRITICAL REFLECTION ON HOW CONTEMPORARY SOCIETIES CAN BECOME MORE INCLUSIVE AND UNDERSTANDING.
THE FIRST PART OF THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON THE ANALYSIS OF SOME KEY CONCEPTS THAT DEFINE INTERCULTURAL RELATIONS, INCLUDING:
- CULTURE: DIFFERENT DEFINITIONS OF CULTURE AND HOW THESE INFLUENCE OUR UNDERSTANDING OF INTERCULTURAL DYNAMICS WILL BE EXAMINED.
- CULTURAL DIFFERENCE: WE WILL REFLECT ON HOW CULTURAL DIFFERENCES ARE CONSTRUCTED, PERCEIVED AND EXPERIENCED IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETIES.
- BELONGING: THE SENSE OF CULTURAL BELONGING AND HOW IT INFLUENCES INDIVIDUAL AND COLLECTIVE IDENTITIES WILL BE DISCUSSED.
THIS PART OF THE COURSE WILL ALSO FOCUS ON THE SOCIAL AND CULTURAL PRACTICES THAT ANIMATE INTERCULTURAL RELATIONS IN EVERYDAY SPACE-TIME. SPECIAL ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO
- TO THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIAL STRUCTURE AND CULTURAL PROCESSES;
- THE SUBJECTIVITY AND AGENCY OF THE ACTORS INVOLVED, I.E. HOW INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS EXERCISE THEIR AGENCY IN THE CONTEXT OF INTERCULTURAL RELATIONS, INFLUENCING AND TRANSFORMING SOCIAL DYNAMICS.

THE SECOND PART OF THE COURSE WILL FOCUS SPECIFICALLY ON THE THEME OF IMMIGRATION. IN PARTICULAR, ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE FOLLOWING THEMES:
- IMMIGRATION IN ITALY: THE DIFFERENT WAVES OF MIGRATION AND THEIR CHARACTERISTICS WILL BE ANALYSED, EXPLORING ITALIAN MIGRATION POLICIES AND THEIR IMPACT ON MIGRANT COMMUNITIES.
- INTEGRATION AND INCLUSION: WE WILL REFLECT ON THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES RELATED TO THE INTEGRATION OF MIGRANTS INTO ITALIAN SOCIETY.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST, ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE ROLE OF SCHOOLS AND THE EDUCATING SOCIETY AND HOW THEY HAVE A CRUCIAL ROLE OF RESPONSIBILITY IN FOSTERING INTEGRATION.

THE EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP OF “CULTURES AND MIGRATIONS IN THE HISPANIC-AMERICAN WORLD” AIMS AT PROMOTING, THROUGH GROUP WORK, THE KNOWLEDGE OF LATIN AMERICAN CULTURE AND LITERATURE. SUCH KNOWLEDGE ALSO REFERS TO MIGRATIONS, IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS OF SOCIAL AND CULTURAL INTEGRATION.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE IS STRUCTURED IN 36 HOURS OF THEORETICAL LECTURES AND CLASSROOM EXERCISES AND AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH AN IN-DEPTH UNDERSTANDING OF COMMUNICATIVE AND INTERCULTURAL DYNAMICS THROUGH A THEORETICAL-PRACTICAL APPROACH.

ATTENDANCE OF THE COURSE IS NOT COMPULSORY, BUT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO ENSURE A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE TOPICS COVERED AND AN EFFECTIVE ACQUISITION OF PRACTICAL SKILLS.



THE WORKSHOP WILL BE DIVIDED INTO WORKING GROUPS, FREELY TRAINED BY THE STUDENTS, WHICH WILL ADDRESS ISSUES RELATED TO THE CULTURE, LITERATURE, CUSTOMS OF LATIN AMERICA AND/OR ITS RELATIONS WITH EUROPE AND ITALY.
ATTENDANCE IS COMPULSORY.
Verification of learning
FOR THE COURSE "SOCIAL RESEARCH ON COMMUNICATION AND INTERCULTURAL PROCESSES," THE FINAL EVALUATION WILL BE BASED ON A SINGLE FINAL EXAM.
THE FINAL EXAM AIMS TO ASSESS:
-MASTERY OF THE CONTENT COVERED DURING THE COURSE.
-APPROPRIATENESS OF THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL REFERENCES USED.
-THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO PROVIDE COHERENT AND PERTINENT EXAMPLES.
-CLARITY IN ARGUMENTATION.
-PROPRIETY OF THE LANGUAGE USED.
ADMINISTRATION AND TYPE OF ASSESSMENT
THE ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING WILL BE CONDUCTED THROUGH A FINAL ORAL EXAM.
-TIMING: THE FINAL EXAM WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE DATES SCHEDULED BY THE DEPARTMENT. THERE WILL BE NO MID-TERM EXAMS OR PRE-SESSIONS.
-DURATION OF THE EXAM: THE ORAL EXAM WILL LAST APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES PER STUDENT. DURING THIS TIME, QUESTIONS WILL BE ASKED ON VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE COURSE TO EVALUATE THE STUDENT'S OVERALL UNDERSTANDING AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS SKILLS.
-FINAL MEASUREMENT OF THE EXAM OUTCOME: THE EVALUATION OF THE ORAL EXAM WILL BE EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS. THE FINAL GRADE WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS:
MASTERY OF CONTENT: VERIFICATION OF IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS COVERED DURING THE COURSE.
APPROPRIATENESS OF THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL REFERENCES: EVALUATION OF THE CORRECT AND RELEVANT USE OF THEORETICAL CONCEPTS AND METHODOLOGIES LEARNED.
ABILITY TO PROVIDE COHERENT EXAMPLES: ABILITY TO DEVELOP EXAMPLES THAT DEMONSTRATE APPLIED UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONCEPTS.
CLARITY IN ARGUMENTATION: ABILITY TO PRESENT IDEAS CLEARLY AND STRUCTURED.
PROPRIETY OF LANGUAGE USED: USE OF APPROPRIATE, PRECISE, AND RELEVANT LANGUAGE TO THE TOPICS COVERED.
THE FINAL EVALUATION WILL REFLECT A SYNTHESIS OF THESE ASPECTS, ENSURING AN ACCURATE MEASUREMENT OF THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT DURING THE COURSE. THE GRADE WILL BE EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS
STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT ATTENDED THE COURSE WILL BE REQUIRED TO ADD AN INTEGRATIVE TEXT, INDICATED IN THE "OTHER INFORMATION" SECTION. THIS SUPPLEMENTARY TEXT WILL BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE ORAL EXAM AND WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE FINAL EVALUATION.
