Objectives
OBJECTIVES: THE LECTURES AIM TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE TOOLS NECESSARY FOR UNDERSTANDING THE PHYSICAL PHENOMENA THAT ARE AT BASIS OF INTERACTIONS BETWEEN ATMOSPHERE AND SOILS AS WELL AS OF METHODS AND SENSORS USED FOR A SMART AND SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF FARMING AND OF THE RELATED INDUSTRIAL ACTIVITIES.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE STUDENT WILL BE CONDUCTED TO LEARN THE BASIC NOTIONS OF PHYSICS NEEDED FOR THE INTERPRETATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL MEASUREMENTS OF PHYSICAL VARIABLES RELATED TO THE INTERACTIONS AMONG SOILS, PLANTS AND ATMOSPHERE. KNOWLEDGE OF SUCH PROCESSES IS ESSENTIAL TO IMPLEMENT
ADAPTATION STRATEGY FOR PRESERVING THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION. THE STUDENTS WILL
ALSO LEARN HOW TO MANAGE MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL SYSTEMS USED IN MONITORING PLANTS AND CROPS AGRICULTURAL AND HOW TO ANALYZE AND INTERPRET THE COLLECTED DATA.

ABILITY TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE: THE LECTURES HAVE ALSO
THE GOAL TO MAKE THE STUDENT INDEPENDENT IN THE CHOICE OF PHYSICAL VARIABLES, SENSORS AND ALGORITHMS TO BE USED FOR THE ANALYSIS AND THE INTERPRETATION OF CONCRETE PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION. GROUP ACTIVITY AND THE ABILITY TO CARRY OUT
PHYSICAL MEASUREMENTS IN THE FIELD AND/OR IN THE LABORATORY WILL BE ALSO FOSTERED.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE COURSE WILL TEND TO FOSTER THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO PRESENT AND DISCUSS THE THE LESSON CONTENT IN A CLEAR AND RIGOROUS WAY. AT THE END OF COURSE, THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO ANALYZE AND DISCUSS IN A MANNER AUTONOMOUS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ONE OR MORE ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES AND THE ISSUE RELATED TO ADAPTATION STRATEGIES.

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: STUDENTS ARE GUIDED TO DISCUSS WITH CRITICISM AND RESPONSIBILITY THE CONTENT PROVIDED AND MATURE THEIR OWN OPINION THROUGH THE STUDY OF THE DIDACTIC MATERIALS INDICATED BY THE PROFESSOR.
Prerequisites
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF MATHS AND PHYSICS

IN INTRODUCING THE COURSE, THE PROFESSOR WILL ALSO RECALL ELEMENTS OF
STATISTICS NEEDED FOR DATA ANALYSIS, INTERPRETATION OF THE EXAMPLES PROVIDED
AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF APPLICATIONS BY THE STUDENTS.
Teaching Methods
DURATION OF THE LECTURES: 42 HOURS
Verification of learning
ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES WILL BE CERTIFIED BY AN ORAL FINAL EXAMINATION WITH A
GRADE IN THIRTIETHS. THE EXAMINATION WILL INVOLVE AN INDEPENDENT ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES AND PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND ADAPTATION OF PRODUCTION WITH RESPECT TO CLIMATE VARIABILITY.
THE EVALUATION WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE QUALITY OF THE ENTIRE EXAMINATION. NO INTERMEDIATE TESTS ARE FORESEEN.
Texts
THE BOOKS LISTED HERE REPRESENT SOME POSSIBLE OPTIONS THAT CAN COVER
COMPLETELY THE CONTENT COVERED IN THE LECTURES. HOWEVER, THE PROFESSOR WILL PROVIDE
HANDOUTS IN ORDER TO FACILITATE THE STUDENTS' COURSEWORK.
FOR MANY OF THE REPORTED BOOKS ENGLISH VERSIONS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE.
