SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES THE COURSE REFLECT – STARTING FROM THE STUDY OF THE COPIOUS LITERATURE EXISTING – ON THE NOTION OF TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGES, TRYING TO RETRACE THE HISTORICAL-CULTURAL CONDITIONS AND INTERPRETATIVE MODELS THAT HAVE LED TO THE MOST RECENT DEBATE AROUND CULTURAL HERITAGE AND THE DECLINATION OF HERITAGE IN DEMO-ETHNO-ANTHROPOLOGICAL TERMS. FURTHERMORE, THE COURSE REFLECT ON THE ISSUES, THE PRACTICES AND THE POLICIES THAT TODAY CHARACTERIZE THE PROCESSES OF HERITAGIZATION IN RELATION TO SOME RECENT NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL INSTRUMENTS LIKE THE 2004 CODE OF CULTURAL HERITAGE AND LANDSCAPE, THE 2003 UNESCO CONVENTION FOR THE SAFEGUARDING OF INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE AND THE FRAMEWORK CONVENTION OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE (FARO CONVENTION) OF 2005. THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE CRUCIAL PASSAGE FROM A DOCUMENTARY MODEL (DOCUMENTATION, RESEARCH, MUSEUMS, CATALOGING) TO A PARTICIPATORY ONE (WHICH RESTORES THE ROLE OF AGENTS TO THE COMMUNITIES ACTIVE IN IDENTIFYING AND SAFEGUARDING ASSETS) ALLOWS US TO GRASP THE MEANING AND FUNCTIONS THAT LOCAL TRADITIONS HAVE FOR "HERITAGE COMMUNITIES" IN THEIR TRANSFORMATION FROM SOCIAL PRACTICES TO CULTURAL HERITAGES, WITH SPECIFIC REFERENCE TO THEIR DIMENSION RITUAL, FESTIVE AND CEREMONIAL. AT THE CENTER OF WHAT ARE DEFINED AS HERITAGIZATION PROCESSES ARE THOSE THAT OVER TIME HAVE CONSTITUTED THE "OBJECTS" OF ANTHROPOLOGICAL RESEARCH: CULTURE, COMMUNITY, ETHNICITY, IDENTITY, ETC. AND THE ARTIFACTS (TANGIBLE OR INTANGIBLE) THAT GAVE SUBSTANCE TO THESE TERMS. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE COURSE AIMS TO DEVELOP CRITICAL SKILLS USEFUL FOR OBSERVING LOCAL CULTURAL AND SOCIAL DYNAMICS AND PROCESSES CONCERNING THE CULTURAL, TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE HERITAGES, IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COMMUNITIES, LOCAL CULTURES AND GLOBAL PROCESSES REGARDING KEY CONCEPTS SUCH AS DEMOCRATIC PARTICIPATION. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE COURSE WILL PROVIDE THE SKILLS TO READ THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HERITAGE PROCESSES AND IDENTITY CONSTRUCTIONS AND POLICIES THAT AT THE LOCAL, NATIONAL AND SUPRANATIONAL LEVEL – IN THE ALWAYS RENEWED DIALECTIC BETWEEN RELATIVISM AND UNIVERSALISM – CHARACTERIZE TODAY THE PROCESSES OF ENHANCING TERRITORIES AND COMMUNITIES AND IN THE THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE INSTITUTIONS. THE STUDENTS WILL THEREFORE BE STIMULATED TO DISCUSS AND IDENTIFY THE ROLE THAT CULTURAL HERITAGES PLAY IN THE ARTICULATION OF LOCAL IDENTITIES AND IN CULTURAL POLICIES AT AN INTERNATIONAL LEVEL, AS WELL AS IN THE PROCEDURES AND CONSTRUCTION OF REPRESENTATIONS OF CULTURAL DIFFERENCES. |
