The course aims to allow the student to learn the history of restoration and its aspects theoretical, scientific, methodological and operational for the architectural restoration project. Knowledge and understanding The student: - will know the theoretical and cultural prerequisites of restoration, of the national and international regulatory framework on the protection of cultural heritage; - will understand the historical-technological characteristics of the buildings and know the methods for analyzing the state of conservation and planning consolidation and restoration interventions. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding The student will be able to apply a culturally based methodology for the design of architectural, archaeological, urban and landscape restoration in its phases of knowledge, diagnosis, design hypothesis and verification. Autonomy of judgement The student will be able to identify the most appropriate methods for the analysis of the existing and for the technical-operational intervention project for the architectural restoration, adopting the most appropriate critical and methodological choices regarding the integration of the gaps and the removal of the additions. Communication skills The student will be able to: - demonstrate that you have reached a level of maturation of the theoretical arguments, of the interrelationship between conceptual and design components; - possess an expository and synthetic ability in explaining the exercise carried out in groups. Learning ability The student will be able to apply the knowledge acquired in contexts different from those presented during the course and delve deeper into the topics covered through the study, in complete autonomy, of materials different from those proposed. |

THE COURSE ADDRESSES THE FOLLOWING CONTENTS: - HISTORY AND THEORY OF RESTORATION: HISTORICAL EVOLUTION AND THEORETICAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO RESTORATION IN THE 19TH AND 20TH CENTURIES, QUESTIONS OF METHOD AND OPERATION IN THE CURRENT FIELD OF RESTORATION. ELEMENTS OF LEGISLATION ON CULTURAL HERITAGE WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE CODE OF CULTURAL HERITAGE AND LANDSCAPE (30 HOURS LESSON); - METHODOLOGY AND TECHNIQUES OF RESTORATION OF ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE: MATERIAL AND STRATIGRAPHIC READING OF HISTORICAL BUILDINGS, CONSTRUCTION CHARACTERS OF HISTORIC BUILDINGS, ANALYSIS OF ALTERATION AND DEGRADATION PROCESSES WITH REFERENCE TO THE UNI 11182 STANDARD FOR THE DEGRADATION OF STONE MATERIALS. IN-DEPTH OF DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUES, READING OF DISORDERS AND DESCRIPTION OF CONSERVATION AND CONSOLIDATION INTERVENTIONS. CONSERVATION AND ACCESSIBILITY: OVERCOMING ARCHITECTURAL BARRIERS IN HISTORICAL BUILDINGS AND SITES. DRAFTING OF A RESTORATION PROJECT FOR A BUILDING OF HISTORICAL INTEREST. (20 HOURS LESSON, 30 HOURS EXERCISE, 10 HOURS LABORATORY). |
Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE INCLUDES THEORETICAL LESSONS (5 CFU), CLASSROOM EXERCISES (3 CFU) AND LABORATORY ACTIVITIES (1 CFU). THEORETICAL LESSONS ARE FOCUSED ON HISTORICAL EVOLUTION AND THEORETICAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO RESTORATION IN THE 19TH AND 20TH CENTURIES. DURING THE EXERCISES, STUDENTS WILL CARRY OUT THE PROJECT THEME ON AN EXISTING, HISTORIC BUILDING IN CONSERVATION CONDITIONS SUCH AS TO MAKE A RESTORATION INTERVENTION JUSTIFIABLE. DURING THE LABORATORY ACTIVITIES THE STUDENTS WILL BE GUIDED BY THE TEACHERS TO IN-DEPTH ANALYZE THE BUILDING AND THE CONSERVATIVE, STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL PROBLEMS TO BE CONSIDERED IN THE PROJECT. STUDENT GROUPS (COMPRISED OF MINIMUM 3 AND MAXIMUM 6 PEOPLE) WILL BE REQUESTED TO PRODUCE ANALYSIS TABLES OF THE STATE OF FACT AND PROJECT. MULTIPLE EXERCISES ARE PLANNED DURING THE COURSE IN ORDER TO ASSESS LEARNING ABILITY AND THE INCIDENCE OF THE PROPOSED TOPICS. ATTENDANCE TO LESSONS IS MANDATORY. TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 70% OF THE HOURS SCHEDULED FOR THE COURSE (AS PER THE TEACHING REGULATIONS OF THE CDS). THE METHOD OF VERIFICATION OF PRESENCE IS NOTED BY THE TEACHER AT THE BEGINNING OF LESSONS. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE FINAL ASSESSMENT IS CARRIED OUT THROUGH AN ORAL EXAM ON THE TOPICS PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE AND ON THE TOPIC OF THE YEAR ADDRESSED. THE EXAM TEST IS AIMED AT ASSESSING THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO HAVE LEARNED THE FUNDAMENTAL CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. THE MARK, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETH WITH POSSIBLE HONORS, WILL DEPEND ON THE MATURITY ACQUIRED IN KNOWLEDGE AND EXPOSURE. IT WILL BE ASSURED THROUGH AN ORAL INTERVIEW AIMED AT ASSESSING THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING REACHED BY THE STUDENT ON THE COURSE CONTENTS, AS WELL AS VERIFYING THE ABILITY TO EXPOSE, USING APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY AND THE ABILITY TO ORGANIZE NAME OF THE EXHIBITION. THE INTERVIEW CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS: A) AND B), PART A) PROPOSES THEORY QUESTIONS ON ALL THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND ON THE RECOMMENDED BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES, AS WELL AS ON THE VISITS, INSPECTIONS AND ANY SEMINARS HELD. PART B) PROPOSES THE DISCUSSION OF THE WORKS OF THE YEAR'S EXERCISE, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE HISTORICAL, ARCHITECTURAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL ANALYSIS AND TO THE PROJECT CHOICES. FOR THE PURPOSES OF HONORS THE following WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT: -THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSURE, IN TERMS OF THE USE OF APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE -THE QUALITY OF THE PROJECTS OF THE DESIGN EXERCISE -THE ABILITY TO TRANSVERSELY CORRELATE BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TOPICS OF THE COURSE -THE DEMONSTRATED AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT. |
