Objectives
THE COURSE OF THEORY OF LITERARY TRANSLATION AIMS TO PROVIDE THE LITERARY METHODOLOGICAL ‘TOOLS’ AND THE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT MOVEMENTS OF HISTORY AND THEORY OF LITERARY TRANSLATION DURING THE TWENTIETH-CENTURY AND THE FIRST DECADE OF THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY (LITERARY COMPARATIVE STUDIES AND TRANSLATION STUDIES, CULTURAL STUDIES AND TRANSLATION STUDIES). IN PARALLEL, A SELECTION OF TRANSLATED WORKS WILL BE DISCUSSED DURING THE CLASS, THUS OFFERING THE STUDENTS A BROADER THEORETICAL REFLECTION ON TRANSLATION AND DIFFERENT CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE TEXTES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL:
- HAVE TO DEMONSTRATE AN ABILITY TO STUDY HISTORY AND THEORY OF LITERARY TRANSLATION THROUGH AN INTERDISCIPLINARY ANALYSIS;
- ACQUIRE NOTIONS OF PHILOLOGY AND LINGUISTICS, GRAMMATICAL AND LEXICAL ANALYSIS OF A TEXT WITH REFERENCE TO THE ADEQUACY OF THE COMMUNICATIVE CONTEXT;
- KNOW HOW TO FRAME GEOGRAPHICAL, HISTORICAL AND RELIGIOUS PROBLEMS;
- KNOW HOW TO USE THE SOURCES;
- KNOW HOW TO FRAME THE JUNCTIONS OF THE HISTORY OF THE VISUAL, PERFORMANCE AND MEDIA ARTS, ANALYZING THEIR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE HISTORICAL-CULTURAL CONTEXT;

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-DEVELOP CRITICAL-INTERPRETIVE AND TRANSLATION SKILLS THROUGH THE READINGS OF LITERARY WORKS;
-DEVELOP A WIDER THEORETICAL REFLECTION ON TRANSLATION;
-CONTEXTUALIZE TEXTS THROUGH A HISTORICAL-LITERARY PERSPECTIVE;
-COMPARE THE FORTUNE OF TEXTS IN THE VARIOUS NATIONAL LITERATURES.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-GAIN AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT OF TRANSLATED TEXTS THROUGH THE APPROPRIATE RESEARCH TOOLS, DOCUMENTS, SOURCES, CRITICAL LITERATURE.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-COMMUNICATE PROPERLY, IN ORAL AND WRITTEN FORM, ALSO USING IT AND MULTIMEDIA TOOLS, BOTH IN ITALIAN AND IN ENGLISH;
-INTERACT WITH CRITICAL SKILLS REFERRED TO THE SPECIFIC DISCIPLINARY AREA.

LEARNING ABILITY
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-ANALYSE AND INTERPRET LITERARY TEXTS;
-UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE THROUGH THE USE OF SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL READINGS.
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT WILL HAVE TO DEMONSTRATE AN ABILITY TO STUDY HISTORY AND THEORY OF LITERARY TRANSLATION THROUGH AN INTERDISCIPLINARY ANALYSIS. THE DISCIPLINES THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEFINITION OF THESE SKILLS ARE: PHILOLOGY AND LINGUISTICS; GRAMMATICAL AND LEXICAL ANALYSIS OF A TEXT; THE ADEQUACY OF THE COMMUNICATIVE CONTEXT; ABILITY TO FRAME GEOGRAPHICAL, HISTORICAL AND RELIGIOUS PROBLEMS; THE PROPER USAGE OF THE SOURCES; ABILITY TO FRAME THE JUNCTIONS OF THE HISTORY OF THE VISUAL, PERFORMANCE AND MEDIA ARTS, ANALYZING THEIR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE HISTORICAL-CULTURAL CONTEXT; SKILLS IN SPOKEN, WRITTEN AND MULTIMEDIA COMMUNICATION, BOTH IN ITALIAN AND IN ENGLISH.

ACCORDING TO TO THE DISCIPLINARY AREA, THE STUDENT GAINS AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT OF TRANSLATED TEXTES THROUGH THE APPROPRIATE RESEARCH TOOLS, (DOCUMENTS, SOURCES, CRITICAL LITERATURE), COMBINED WITH LABORATORY, SEMINAR OR INTERNSHIP ACTIVITIES, THROUGH THE PREPARATION OF PAPERS AND, ABOVE ALL, DURING THE PREPARATION FOR THE FINAL TEST.
