Prerequisites
THE COURSE REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF THE PHYSIOLOGY OF THE STOMATOGNATHIC SYSTEM, ANATOMY OF THE JAWS, PRINCIPLES OF ORTHODONTIC DIAGNOSIS AND ETIOLOGY OF MALOCCLUSIONS.
Contents
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO 3 MODULES: ORTHODONTICS, MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY AND RADIOLOGY.

ORTHODONTICS (66 HOURS)

- THE ANTERIOR LIMIT OF THE DENTITION
- ORTHODONTIC ANCHORAGE
- CONCEPTS OF CRANIOFACIAL GROWTH
- BIOLOGY AND BIOMECHANICS OF TOOTH MOVEMENT
- BURNSTONE GEOMETRIES
- VTO
- THE PRESCRIPTION OF BRACKETS
- ORTHODONTIC WIRES
- THE PHASES OF FIXED ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
- INTERCEPTIVE ORTHODONTICS
- ORTHOPAEDIC ORTHODONTICS
- DIGITAL ORTHODONTICS

RADIOLOGY (11 HOURS)

- TWO- AND THREE-DIMENSIONAL RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGING IN ORTHODONTICS
- INTERPRETATION OF RADIOGRAPHS

MAXILLO-FACIAL SURGERY (22 HOURS)

- DYSFUNCTIONAL ALGIC SYNDROME OF THE TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINTS.
- DENTAL INCLUSION (CLASSIFICATION, ETIOPATHOGENESIS, CLINICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC FRAMING, TREATMENT PROTOCOLS).
- THIRD MOLAR DYSODONTIASIS (ETIOPATHOGENESIS, CLINICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC FRAMING AND TREATMENT).
- CYSTIC PATHOLOGIES OF THE MAXILLARIES (CLASSIFICATION, ETIOPATHOGNENESIS, CLINICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC FRAMING, AND TREATMENT PROTOCOLS).
- MAXILLARY ATROPHY AND IMPLANT-PROSTHETIC REHABILITATION.
- SURGICAL TREATMENT OF DENTO-SKELETAL MALOCCLUSIONS.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF LECTURES AND CLASSROOM PRACTICE OF VTO (VISUAL OBJECTIVE TREATMENT).
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL TEST. FOR THE ORTHODONTICS MODULE, THE WRITTEN TEST WILL CONSIST OF 10 MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS DESIGNED TO TEST THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED. THE ORAL TEST CONSISTS OF THE DISCUSSION OF A CLINICAL CASE, IN WHICH THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO DEVELOP A TREATMENT PLAN INDEPENDENTLY. THE ORAL TEST WILL BE OPEN TO STUDENTS WHO ACHIEVE A MINIMUM SCORE OF 6/10 IN THE WRITTEN TEST. THE GRADE FOR THE ORAL EXAMINATION DEPENDS ON THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO EFFECTIVELY PRESENT THE CONTENT AND CRITICALLY DISCUSS THE ARGUMENTS PRESENTED.
FOR THE RADIOLOGY MODULE THERE IS ONLY A WRITTEN MULTIPLE-CHOICE TEST WITH A MINIMUM MARK OF 18/30.
FOR THE MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY MODULE, THERE IS ONLY AN ORAL TEST AIMED AT ASSESSING THE KNOWLEDGE AND DEPTH OF THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE PROGRAMME.
