THE INTEGRATED COURSE AIMS TO GIVE STUDENTS KNOWLEDGE OF PAEDIATRICS, ORTHODONTICS, AND PAEDIATRIC DENTISTRY. THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE ON GROWTH AND PSYCHO-SOMATIC DEVELOPMENT FROM BIRTH TO ADOLESCENCE AND TO INDICATE THE DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC FOUNDATIONS OF THE MAIN ODONTOSTOMATOLOGICAL PATHOLOGIES IN PAEDIATRIC AGE, INCLUDING THOSE WITH SYSTEMIC INVOLVEMENT THAT HAVE A CLINICAL PRESENTATION IN THE ORAL CAVITY. IN PARTICULAR, THE FOLLOWING ESSENTIAL TOPICS ARE INCLUDED: CLINICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL APPROACH TO THE PAEDIATRIC PATIENT, THE NEWBORN, PAEDIATRIC NUTRITION, AND THE NECESSITY OF MINERAL AND VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS. THE MAIN ACUTE AND CHRONIC SYSTEMIC SYNDROMES AND DISEASES WITH MANIFESTATIONS AND/OR COMPLICATIONS IN THE ORAL CAVITY. RESPIRATORY AND GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASES THAT INCLUDE DENTITION AND ORAL CAVITY PATHOLOGIES. THE DIAGNOSIS AND CLINICAL MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE AND CHRONIC ALLERGIC DISEASES IN CHILDREN. THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF PAIN IN PAEDIATRIC AGE. ADDITIONALLY, THE COURSE PROVIDES THE NECESSARY TOOLS TO MAKE AN ACCURATE ORTHODONTIC DIAGNOSIS IN GROWING PATIENTS. VARIOUS METHODS ARE TAUGHT TO IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF MALOCCLUSION, THE CAUSES CONTRIBUTING TO ITS DEVELOPMENT, AND THE DIFFERENT STAGES OF CRANIOFACIAL GROWTH IN PAEDIATRIC PATIENTS; THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF CARIOUS PATHOLOGY, DENTAL ANOMALIES, AND ORO-FACIAL TRAUMAS (CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY, ENDODONTICS); FLUORIDE PROPHYLAXIS; SEALANTS. THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO ASSESS THE OVERALL HEALTH OF THE YOUNG PATIENT, RECOGNISE ANY SYSTEMIC PATHOLOGIES, AND INTERPRET CLINICAL-CHEMICAL EXAMINATIONS IN A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY ENVIRONMENT, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO NON-COOPERATIVE OR DISABLED CHILDREN. |

Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF LECTURES (72 HOURS) AND IN-CLASS EXERCISES (12 HOURS). THE LECTURES WILL ALLOW THE STUDENT TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF GENERAL PAEDIATRICS AND PAEDIATRIC DENTISTRY. THE EXERCISES WILL ENABLE THE STUDENT TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO APPLY PAEDIATRIC DENTISTRY KNOWLEDGE THROUGH CLINICAL CASE SIMULATIONS AND PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A TUTOR. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL TEST IN WHICH THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE TO KNOW THE BASIC NOTIONS ABOUT GROWTH AND PSYCHO-SOMATIC DEVELOPMENT, FROM BIRTH TO ADOLESCENCE, AND TO INDICATE THE DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC FOUNDATIONS OF THE MAIN ODONTOSTOMATOLOGICAL PATHOLOGIES IN PAEDIATRIC AGE, INCLUDING THOSE WITH SYSTEMIC INVOLVEMENT WITH CLINICAL PRESENTATION AT THE ORAL CAVITY LEVEL. |
