Objectives
THE GOAL OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE SPECIFIC AND INNOVATIVE KNOWLEDGE ON THE ACQUISITION OF BASIC KNOWLEDGE ON THE ECO-PHYSIOLOGY OF THE MAIN FORAGE SPECIES, ON THE QUALITY OF FORAGE AND ON DIGITAL APPLICATIONS TO OPTIMIZE THE EFFICIENCY OF PRODUCTION SYSTEMS ALSO THROUGH THE VALORIZATION OF LIVESTOCK WASTE. THE COURSE INTEGRATES AND DEEPENS THE ASPECTS RELATED TO THE QUALITY AND FERTILITY OF THE SOIL WITH A SYSTEM APPROACH THROUGH THE VALORIZATION OF FORAGE RESOURCES BOTH IN INTENSIVE LOWLAND LIVESTOCK AND IN HILLY AREAS AND PROTECTED AREAS.

THE MAIN KNOWLEDGE WILL BE:
-ANALYZE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PRODUCTION CAPACITY OF THE FARM FORAGE SYSTEM AND THE NEEDS OF THE STABLE AND VERIFY THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY OF THE FORAGE SYSTEM.

THE MAIN SKILLS WILL BE:
-ABILITY TO PROCESS AN EFFICIENT AGRONOMICAL MANAGEMENT OF THE FORAGE SYSTEMS OF SOME LIVESTOCK FARM;
-PROVIDE SOLUTIONS TO SPECIFIC PROBLEMS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF FORAGE CROPPING SYSTEMS.

Prerequisites
THERE ARE NO FORMAL PREREQUISITES IN TERMS OF PREVIOUSLY PASSED COURSES TO ATTEND THIS COURSE, BUT TO BETTER UNDERSTAND AND APPLY MOST OF THE TOPICS ADDRESSED DURING THE COURSE, KNOWLEDGE OF AGRONOMY IS REQUIRED.

INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE (0.3 ECTS, 2 HOURS).
FORAGE FARMING: NOTES ON THE HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF FORAGE PRODUCTION AND CONSERVATION. MAIN FORAGE SPECIES, TYPES OF CROPS AND THEIR DIFFUSION OVER THE NATIONAL TERRITORY (0.9 ECTS, 6 HOURS).
MORPHOLOGY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF FORAGE GRASSES. VEGETATIVE PHASE, PLANTING, TRANSITION FROM THE VEGETATIVE PHASE TO THE REPRODUCTIVE MORPHOLOGY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF LEGUMES. GROWTH MODE AND CUTTING RATE IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF LEGUMES. (0.6 ECTS, 4 HOURS).
ELEMENTS OF AGROTECHNIQUE OF FORAGE CROPS. MANAGEMENT OF THE FERTILIZATION OF THE CROPS OF THE LIVESTOCK FARM. CORPORATE VALORIZATION OF ORGANIC FERTILIZERS (SLURRY AND MANURE) (0.7 ECTS, 5 HOURS).
NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF FORAGE, INFLUENCE OF THE STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE PLANT ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF FORAGE AND TIME FOR CUTTING (0.9 ECTS, 6 HOURS).
GENERAL INFORMATION ON FORAGE CONSERVATION. TYPES OF CONSERVATION WET AND DRY (0.7 ECTS, 5 HOURS
Classroom and field exercises
USE OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE CULTIVATION OF FORAGE PLANTS AND SOIL FERTILIZATION (1 ECTS, 7 HOURS).
INTENSIVE FORAGE SYSTEMS. ORGANIZATION OF FARM FORAGE SYSTEMS ACCORDING TO THE FARM SURFACES AND THE NUTRITIONAL NEEDS OF THE FARM (1 ECTS, 7 HOURS).
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF LECTURES ACCOMPANIED BY EXERCISES (GUIDED VISITS TO FARMS).
FURTHERMORE, SEMINARS HELD BY VISITING PROFESSORS OR SUBJECT EXPERTS ON TOPICS OF PARTICULAR INTEREST WILL CONSTITUTE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE COURSE.

THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EXAM WITH THE MINIMUM RATE OF 18/30. THE FINAL EXAM IS AN ORAL INTERVIEW WHICH IS BASED ON THE DISCUSSION
