THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THEORETICAL MODELS AND INTERVENTIONS IN THE FIELD OF HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY AND ILLNESS CONTEXTS, AND TO BROADEN UNDERSTANDING OF HEALTH AND ILLNESS CONSTRUCTS AND PATHWAYS FOR PREVENTION AND PROMOTION OF WELL-BEING AND HEALTH IN HOSPITAL SETTINGS, WHICH ARE THE PREFERRED INTERVENTION SETTINGS FOR HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY. EXPECTED OUTCOMES: KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: A) UNDERSTANDING OF DEFINITIONS AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSTRUCTS ASSOCIATED WITH HEALTH AND ILLNESS CONDITIONS; B) ACQUISITION OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY INTERVENTIONS IN THE HOSPITAL SETTING, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE INTEGRATION OF PSYCHOLOGISTS INTO TEAMS OF HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS WHO SHARE THE CARE OF PEOPLE WITH ORGANIC DISEASES; C) DEEPENING UNDERSTANDING OF THE PSYCHOLOGICAL EXPERIENCES OF SOME OF THE MOST COMMON PATHOLOGIES SUCH AS ONCOLOGICAL, CHRONIC, RARE GENETIC, AND CARDIAC DISEASES, IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE PATIENT'S EXPERIENCE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVENTION AND SUPPORT STRATEGIES; GAINING FAMILIARITY WITH THE MAIN INTERVENTION MODELS IN COMMUNICATION BETWEEN PATIENT AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDER, WITH A FOCUS ON NARRATIVE MEDICINE APPROACH. APPLIED KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: UNDERSTANDING THE MAIN TYPES OF PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVENTION IN HOSPITAL SETTINGS. JUDGEMENT AUTONOMY: ASSESSING MENTAL HEALTH AND SUFFERING PROSPECTS CONSIDERING THE ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS OF CARE AND HEALTHCARE INTERVENTION. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: EMPATHETIC COMMUNICATION AND CLINICAL INTERVIEW. LEARNING SKILLS: ABILITY TO TRANSFORM THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE INTO INTERVENTION DESIGNS. |

THE COURSE DEALS WITH DIFFERENT ISSUES OF PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVENTION IN ILLNESS EXPERIENCES, PREVENTION AND HEALTH PROMOTION FROM INFANCY TO ADULTHOOD. THE PROFESSOR WILL DISCUSS WITH STUDENTS THE MAIL THEORIES ON THE PSYCHIC, TRAUMATIC AND POST-TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES OF DISEASE, FROM DIAGNOSIS TO END OF LIFE STAGE. THE COMMUNICATION MODELS WILL BE ANALYZED CONSIDERING DIFFERENT TYPES OF RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PATIENTS AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON THE ROLE OF THE PSYCHOLOGIST IN HOSPITAL AND SANITARY SETTINGS. END OF LIFE MANAGEMENT FROM AN ETHICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW WILL BE DEBATED. |
