Sofia MASTROKOUKOU Curriculum

Sofia Mastrokoukou is an Assistant Professor in Developmental and Educational Psychology (M-PSI/04) at the Department of Political and Social Studies of the University of Salerno.

She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD), and the Italian Association of Psychology (AIP).

She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Milano-Bicocca, with a dissertation titled Teaching Effectiveness and SWOC Analysis at a Greek Higher Education Institution.

Her research focuses on developmental and educational psychology, particularly on emotional-affective processes in school environments, teacher-student interactions, educational inclusion, and university teaching methods.

She has collaborated with various international universities on research projects, including:

  • University of Ioannina (Greece) – University teaching and teaching effectiveness.
  • University of Valencia (Spain) – Research on vulnerability in developmental contexts.
  • University of Insubria (Italy) – Exploring the role of resilience and emotional regulation in university students' academic journeys.
  • University of Piraeus (Greece) – Research member in the Motivating Teachers 4 Europe (MOTIVATE) project, focusing on intercultural competencies and the application of psychometric tools to assess teachers’ personality traits.

She has held Visiting Professor positions at:

  • Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (Kenya) – Taught Psychology of Disability.
  • European Security and Defence College (Belgium) – Delivered courses on Research Methodology with an emphasis on psychometric tools.
  • Universidad Europeia del Vitoria, Espírito Santo (Brazil) – Taught Developmental Psychology (March 2023), covering psychological development stages, major theories, research methodologies, and observational techniques.
  • University of Sialkot & University of Lahore (Pakistan) – Scheduled to teach Psychology of Disability (February 2025), providing students with insights into the psychological aspects of disability, inclusion strategies, and a critical analysis of accessibility barriers.
