Pasquale LONGO Curriculum
Pasquale Longo was born in Giffoni sei Casali (SA), Italy, in 1955 and received his degree in Chemistry in 1979 from the University of Naples.
He was Research Assistant at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Salerno from 1984 to 1992. From November 1992 to october 2000 he was Associate Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry. Since November 2000 he has been Full Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry. He teaches General and Inorganic Chemistry and Advanced Inorganic Chemistry.
His research activity was first directed to the synthesis and characterization of group 10 organometallic compounds and related catalytic applications.. Since 1985 he became active in the area of stereospecific polymerization catalysis. He currently works in the field of synthesis of organometallic compounds having biological activity, and in the synthesis of new ruthenium complexes active in the metathesis reactions and in microstructural characterization of stereoregular polymeric materials, obtained both via poly-addition and ring opening metathesis polymerization, moreover he is interested to stereo-selective ring closing metathesis of alfa-omega dienes.
The research activity of prof. Longo is documented by about 200 papers published in scientific journal with high "impact factor" and more than 10 awarded patents and patent applications worldwide.. He is included in the TIS (Top Italian Scientist), having h-index 47, and a sum of times cited higher than 7000, In 2017 he received the Prize for Research from the New Popular Medical School of Salerno (UPNSMS) and the 2017 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievemente Award. In 2017, with the TNcKillers project, he won the second prize at the StartCup Basilicata in the LIFE category.
From November 1992 to May 1997 he was didactics coordinator of the Degree in Chemistry. From May 1997 to November 2005 he was the Chairman of the Degree in Chemistry. From November 2000 to october 2008 he was deputy Dean of Faculty of Science, and from November 2008 to December 2010 he was Director of the Department of Chemistry of University of Salerno. He was a member of Patent Committee of University of Salerno from 2002 to 2011. He was the delegate of the Chancellor for the Job-Placement from november 2013 at november 2016, currently he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Southern Apennines consortium. From february 2020 to february 2023 he was the Director of Department of Chemistry and Biology "A. Zambelli" of University of Salerno.
