Maria Rosaria Pelizzari teaches Contemporary History and  Women History and Gender Studies at Degree courses: Visual Arts, Music and Theatre Studies (DAVIMUS), and Foreign Languages and Cultures;  Contemporary History at  Inter Ateneum Degree Course (Italy-France) of Tourism Management and Development. She is interested in social and cultural history, Italian and European, between the late Eighteenth century and the first half of the Twentieth century. Her research has focused in recent years on the history of violence against women and children, in Naples in the early Twentieth century. She has also studied and continues to study social history of gambling, in several aspects (economic, social, cultural, iconographic), as well as the relationship between orality and written culture in modern and contemporary age. To these issues, she adds the interest to urban history, which has resulted in the study of the image of the city of Naples, provided to visitors by the guidebooks (from XVIIIth to XIX century), and in the critical edition of the guide of Naples by Giuseppe M. Galanti (1792). In the context of issues related to the teaching of history, she has paid particular attention to the relationship between history and cinema by point of view of Gender studies.
