Objectives
THE TEACHING AIMS TO DEEPEN THE STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE POLITICAL, SOCIAL, RELIGIOUS AND ECONOMIC PHENOMENA CHARACTERIZING EUROPE FROM THE LATE ANTIQUE PERIOD TO THE END OF THE 15TH CENTURY, THE BASIC METHODOLOGY OF THE DISCIPLINE AND A RIGOROUS HISTORIOGRAPHICAL VOCABULARY. IT IS AIMED, IN THIS SENSE, AT PROVIDING THE SPECIALIZED SKILLS AT AN ADVANCED LEVEL TO DEAL WITH NEW PROBLEMS AND ISSUES AND TO BE ABLE TO DEVELOP ORIGINAL AND INNOVATIVE LINES OF RESEARCH.

Contents
IN THE LECTURES WILL COVER TOPICS RELATED TO THE HISTORICAL EVENTS, INSTITUTIONS, CULTURE AND MENTALITY OF CERTAIN MOMENTS OF THE MEDIEVAL PERIOD, BOTH SECULAR AND ECCLESIASTICAL IN SCOPE, WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO THE SOUTHERN ITALIAN AND ITALIC AREA IN GENERAL, BUT WITH COMPARISONS WITH OTHER EUROPEAN AND MEDITERRANEAN AREAS.
Teaching Methods
THE LECTURES WILL BE FRONTAL, BUT STIMULATING THE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF DOCTORAL STUDENTS. THEY WILL HAVE THEIR FOCUS ON THE SOURCES, PRESENTED NORMALLY IN LATIN OR, WHERE POSSIBLE, IN GOOD TRANSLATION, BUT WITH CONSTANT COMPARISONS WITH RELATED HISTORIOGRAPHY. CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN, FROM TIME TO TIME, TO THE POSSIBILITY OF ADMINISTERING SPECIALIZED ESSAYS TO STUDENTS THAT WILL BE A STIMULUS TO THEMATIC INSIGHTS AND COLLECTIVE DISCUSSION.
