Objectives
THE TEACHING AIMS TO TRAIN PROFESSIONALS WHO ARE CAPABLE OF OPERATING IN THE FIELD OF WATER SUPPLY AND SOIL CONSERVATION. THE TEACHING WILL PROVIDE THE KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY FOR UNDERSTANDING THE OPERATION OF THE MAIN WATER SYSTEMS.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE TEACHING IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE THE KNOWLEDGE AND MASTERY OF HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING, TO BE ACQUIRED THROUGH THE STUDY OF TEXTBOOKS AND SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS AND TROUGH PRACTICAL EXAMPLES. IN PARTICULAR, WE ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:
- CHARACTERISTICS OF WATER RESOURCES AND THE CRITERIA FOR THEIR USE.
- DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT OF WATER SYSTEMS
- ESTIMATION OF EXTREME RAINFALL EVENTS.
- DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT OF SEWAGES,
- MANAGEMENT OF FLOOD RISKS
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING TO ISSUES RELATED TO HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING IN ORDER TO SOLVE PROBLEMS WITHIN MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACHES AND TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT INNOVATIVE AND ORIGINAL APPROACHES. IN PARTICULAR:
- ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE APPROACH DEPENDING ON THE SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTEXT.
- ABILITY TO DESIGN THE MAIN HYDRAULIC WORKS AND VERIFY PROPER OPERATION.
- ACQUISITION OF METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF WATER SYSTEMS.

HYDRAULIC AND ECONOMIC CALCULATION OF A PUMPING SYSTEM. UNSTEADY FLOW IN PRESSURE PIPES. ATTENUATION OF UNSTEADY FLOW. MATERIALS FOR PIPES. STATIC DIMENSIONING OF PIPES.

•SEWAGES: DESIGN AND VERIFICATION OF ARTIFICIAL DRAINAGE NETWORKS. MATERIALS FOR SEWER. STEADY FLOW, FREE SURFUCE, WATER PROFILES.
•RIVER MORPHOLOGY. SEDIMENT TRANSPORT. THE THEORY OF SHIELDS. SEDIMENT TRANSPORT IN SUSPENSION. DEBRIS FLOWS, FORMATION, PROPAGATION, AMPLIFICATION, DEPOSITION. ESTIMATION OF HYDRAULIC RISK. MITIGATION OF FLOOD RISK. NON-STRUCTURAL COUNTERMEASURES: LAND USE, WARNING SYSTEMS. STRUCTURAL COUNTERMEASURES.
Teaching Methods
LECTURES, CLASSROOM EXERCISES, PROJECT WORK. STUDENTS WILL BE INVITED TO ILLUSTRATE AND DISCUSS THEIR PROJECT WORK IN THE CLASSROOM, EVEN WITH THE SUPPORT OF SLIDESHOWS.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE LEARNING OUTCOMES IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN ORAL EXAM WITH EVALUATION IN THIRTIETHS. THE EXAM INCLUDES THE PRESENTATION OF A TECHNICAL PAPER PRODUCED BY THE STUDENT INDEPENDENTLY OR IN GROUPS ON A TOPIC INDICATED BY THE TEACHER.
THE ORAL EXAM CONSISTS OF A DISCUSSION LASTING ABOUT 15 MINUTES AIMED AT ASCERTAINING THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE SYLLABUS. THE ORAL TEST WILL ALSO ALLOW THE STUDENT'S COMMUNICATION SKILLS TO BE VERIFIED WITH THE LANGUAGE AND AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATION OF THE EXPOSITION.
THE ORAL EXAM INCLUDES A DISCUSSION OF THE DURATION OF ABOUT 15 MINUTES OF A TECHNICAL WORK PRODUCED BY THE STUDENT INDEPENDENTLY OR IN A GROUP ON A CASE STUDY PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER AS A LABORATORY ACTIVITY. THE DISCUSSION WILL ILLUSTRATE THE PROBLEMS POSED BY THE ASSIGNED CASE, THE POSSIBLE PROJECT ALTERNATIVES, THE POSSIBLE REGULATORY CONTEXT, THE METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH ADOPTED, THE ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED. THE DISCUSSION CAN USE SLIDES AND PROVIDE FOR THE REQUEST FOR THEORETICAL INSIGHTS AND DETAILED CLARIFICATIONS BY THE MEMBERS OF THE EXAMINATION COMMITTEE.
THE EVALUATION OF THE ORAL TEST WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON THE BASIS OF THE FOLLOWING INDICATORS: COMPLETENESS, PRESENTATION, RELEVANCE.
THE TEST AS A WHOLE MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO ASCERTAIN BOTH THE CAPACITY FOR KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, AND THE ABILITY TO APPLY THE SKILLS ACQUIRED, BOTH THE ABILITY TO EXHIBIT, AND THE ABILITY TO LEARN AND DEVELOP SOLUTIONS IN INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT.
THE MINIMUM GRADE FOR PASSING THE EXAM IS 18/30. THE HONORS CAN BE AWARDED TO STUDENTS WHO REACH THE MAXIMUM SCORE OF 30/30 AND DEMONSTRATE TO BE ABLE TO INDEPENDENTLY APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED EVEN IN CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED IN CLASS.
