Objectives
THIS OPTIONAL TEACHING COURSE IS ADDRESSED MAINLY TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE MORE INTEREST FOR THE EDUCATIONAL FUNCTIONS OF PHILOSOPHY THAN TO ITS INNER THEORETICAL CONTENTS (WHICH ARE MORE DETAILEDLY FACED THROUGH THE ALTERNATIVE TEACHING). IN THIS CONTEXT; THE FIRST CYCLE OF LECTURES (PRIMO MODULO) INTRODUCES THE PHILOSOPHICAL THEORIES OF DIALOGUE, PAYING ATTENTION TO THEIR THEORETICAL BASIS BUT; STILL MORE, TO THEIR EDUCATIONAL IMPLICATIONS. THE SECOND CYCLE OF LECTURES (SECONDO MODULO) OFFERS A MORE TECHNICAL ANALYSIS CONCERNING ARGUMENTATION AND CRITERIA OF LOGICITY AND PLAUSIBILITY OF ARGUMENTS AS DEVELOPED BY PHILOSOPHERS ALONG HISTORY OF WESTERN THOUGHT. THE COMMON OBJECTIVE IS THAT OF LETTING GROW, IN THE STUDENTS, ARGUMENTATION AND CRITICAL THOUGHT, SO TO ALLOW THEM A COMMAND ON SUCH SKILLS AND THE ABILITY OF CARING THEIR EMPOWERMENT IN THE RUN OF THEIR EDUCATIONAL PLANS.
Prerequisites
NO PARTICULAR PRE-REQUISITE, AT THE EXCEPTION OF THE GENERAL INFORMATION ON HUMAN HISTORY WHICH IS OFFERED IN EACH KIND OF HIGH SCHOOL. IT IS HOWEVER COUNSELLED TO START WITH IT AFTER HAVING FOLLOWED THE LECTURES ON HISTORY OF THE FIRST YEAR.
Contents
THE FIRST CYCLE OF LECTURES (PROF. CALABRO') WILL BE INTRODUCED BY AN EXPLANATION OF PHILOSOPHY OF DIALOGUE SINCE THE ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY TO TODAY. THE MAIN TEXT USED ALONG THE LECTURES - - IL DIALOGO SOCRATICO FRA TRADIZIONE STORICA E PRATICA FILOSOFICA PER LA CURA DI SE' - WILL BE READ AND COMMENTED ALONG THE LINES OF ITS THEORETICAL CONTENTS.
THE SECOND CYCLE OF LECTURES (PROF. PIRO) WILL FACE IN A MORE TECHNICAL WAY ARGUMENTATION, ITS COMPONENTS, THE CRITERIA OF LOGICITY AND PLAUSIBILITY CONCERNING ARGUMENTS, THE THEORY OF ERRORS AND FALLACIES. THIS PART WILL BE ANYWAY CONNECTED TO THE FIRST THROUGH THEIR COMMON GOAL TO HELP STUDENTS TO OBTAIN AN ACQUAINTANCE WITH PHILOSOPHICAL PRACTICES TO CONQUER MORE POWER ON THEIR OWN COGNITIVE PROCESSES (MORE META-COGNITION) AND ABILITY TO HELP OTHERS TO ACQUIRE THIS SAME POWER.
Teaching Methods
BOTH THE CYCLES OF LECTURES COMPOSING THE TEACHING USE THE FOLLOWING METHODOLOGIES:
-LECTURES WITH WIDE CONTENTS, WITH A FINAL DISCUSSION ON THE CENTRAL TOPICS OF THE LESSON.
-LECTURES TRANSMITTING MORE APPLICATIVE KNOWLEDGES AND WHICH ARE FOLLOWED BY EXERCISES AND PROBLEMS ON WHICH THE CLASS WORKS IN ORDER TO FIND SOLUTIONS.
-LECTURES BASED ON TEXTS, WITH THEIR ANALYSIS AND THE DISCUSSION BY THE WHOLE CLASS.
- PROJECTION OF MOVIES AND VIDEOS CONCERNING THE TOPICS WHICH WERE ADDRESSED.

SINGLE ISSUES CAN BE DEVELOPED THROUGH SEMINARIAL METHODS AND – MAINLY AT THE GOAL TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ ARGUMENTATION ABILITIES – MAY BE DEVELOPED IN THE LOGIC OF A “ENQUIRE COMMUNITY” OR THROUGH THE METHOD OF “DEBATE”.
Verification of learning
THE FINAL PROOF IS ORGANIZED AS AN ORAL INTERVIEW IN THE COURSE OF WHICH A SINGLE STUDENT DISCUSSES WITH THE TEACHERS THE ISSUES OF THE WHOLE TEACHING.
STUDENTS WHO PREFER DIFFERENT STEPS FOR THE PROOF HAVE THE POSSIBILITY OF AGREEING AN INTERCOURSE PROOF AT THE END OF THE WINTER SEMESTER WITH THE TEACHER WHO HELD THE LECTURES OF THE WINTER SEMESTER.
IN ABSENCE OF FORMER INTERCOURSE PROOFS, THE ORAL INTERVIEW USUALLY INCLUDES THE DISCUSSION OF AT LEAST THREE ISSUES OF THE LECTURES FOR EACH OF THE TWO PARTS OF THE TEACHING.
THE ORAL PERFORMANCE OF THE STUDENT IS EVALUATED ON THE BASIS OF THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES: (I) THE COMPLETENESS OF THE INFORMATION CONCERNING THE ISSUE; (II) THE ABILITY OF EXPOUNDING CLEARLY AND ANALYSING LOGICALLY THE POINTS; (III) THE ABILITY OF USING CORRECTLY THE PHILOSOPHIC TERMINOLOGY AND PROPERLY DEFINING WORDS. THE ABILITIES TO SKETCH COMPARISONS BETWEEN PHILOSOPHICAL VIEWS, TO CONNECT PHILOSOPHICAL CLAIMS, TO ARRIVE TO AUTONOMOUSLY GROUNDED JUDGEMENTS, ARE OTHER ELEMENTS WHICH CONCUR TO A POSITIVE EVALUATIONS.
