Giovanna TRUDA Curriculum
Giovanna Truda is professor in Sociology at the Department of Political and Communication Science (DiSPC), University of Salerno. She is authorized to perform the functions of Full Professor for the scientific disciplinary SSD: SPS / 12 and SPS / 11. In 2000 she graduated summa cum laude in Sociology, specialization in Political Sociology, at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, University of Salerno. In 2002 she attended the Master of Arts in “Quantitative Methods and Market Research” organized by the University of Salerno, Naples, Palermo, and Sichelgaita Institute. In 2004 she obtained the International PhD in Sociology of Law established by Niklas Luhmann, in “Evolution of legal systems and new rights”, at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lecce, coordinator of the PhD prof. Raffaele De Giorgi.
In 2008 she became a lecturer in General Sociology at the Faculty of Education of the University of Salerno.
From 2008 to date she has been a lecturer in General Sociology and Sociology of Law at the MSc Program (LM57)-Professional educators and experts in continuing education, and at the MSc Program in Pedagogical Sciences (LM85), Department of Humanities, Philosophy and Education (DISUFF), University of Salerno. From 2017 to date she is a lecturer in Sociology of Social Policy and Gender Policies at the MSc Program (LM57)-Professional educators and experts in continuing education of the same Department.
From 2005 to 2007, she has been adjunct professor at the University of Salerno as professor of Legal Sociology and sociology of deviance and social change at the Faculty of Education of the University of Salerno. She taught at the Laboratory of Legal Sociology, sociology of deviance and social change at the same Faculty from 2007 to 2010.
From 2008 to 2011 she was a lecturer in Legal Sociology and sociology of deviance and social change at the Master's Degree for Professional Educators and the Degree Course in Education Sciences at the Faculty of Education of the University of Salerno. In the academic year 2010-2011 she is a lecturer at the postgraduate Master's Degree Course “Child maltreatment and sexual abuse: phenomenon, protection, intervention” at the Department of Educational Sciences of the University of Salerno, a master's degree started with the funds of the Prime Minister’s Office – Department for Equal Opportunities.
Since 12/2017 she is Scientific Director of the CcISuD laboratory – International Network-Cultural Changes, Inequalities and Sustainable Development (CcISuD). The network, made up of scholars from different countries, was born with the aim of integrating research groups and international and national actors engaged in analysis and research on subjects, understood as right holders, protagonists of territorial dynamics. It also aims at a socio-legal approach to Territorial Intelligence understood as an innovative organization and network of information and knowledge useful for the development and competitiveness of a territory. It is a “social” component, acting based on available knowledge and human resources, to achieve goals and objectives shared by the community. Territorial intelligence highlights the close link between knowledge production and territorial action and the importance of human and social capital in the innovation process and the need for a global approach to people’s needs in order to promote sustainable development also by future generations.
Since 2011 she is a member of the international research group Groupe de recherche international, GDRI INTI, CNRS, Maison de Sciences de l’Homme et de l’environnement – Claude Nicolas Ledoux, Besançon (FRANCE).
In 2013 she is visiting researcher at the Max-Planck-Institut für europäische Rechtsgeschichte in Frankfurt (from March to June). During this period, she has been involved in bibliographic research and in the deepening of Luhmanian theory in German. She participated in the seminar activities of sociology of law organized by prof. Raffaele De Giorgi.
Since March 2019 she has been a member of the Interdepartmental Centre for Risk Studies. The centre is based at the Department of Legal Sciences, but with the participation of the Department of Innovation Engineering and the Department of Economics – University of Salento (Lecce). Head prof. Raffele de Giorgi. The establishment in 1988 of the Centre for Risk Studies at the University of Salento institutionalized Luhmann’s relationship with Southern Italy and with Raffaele De Giorgi, a special relationship that culminated with the publication of Theory of Society.
She is a member of several Observatories. Since 2014 she is a member of the Observatory on Social Policies of the Department of Political and Social Studies (DiSPS) of the University of Salerno on the transformations of local and national welfare, in relation to the various forms of territorial planning, acting as a privileged source of data, information and, at the same time, interpretations and statistical insights to support policy planning. From 06/2018 she is a member of the Interdepartmental Centre for “Conflict Research” (CIRC) established between the Departments of Humanistic Studies (DiPSUM), Political, Social and Communication Sciences (DiSPC), Cultural Heritage Sciences (DiSPAC) and Human, Philosophical and Training Sciences (DiSUFF) of the University of Salerno, founded with the aim of bringing together scholars from different disciplines around the theme of conflicts in contemporary society.
From 2011 to 2019 - she is a member of the board of the Interdepartmental Observatory for Gender Studies and Equal Opportunities (OGEPO) of the University of Salerno. The Observatory promotes research and comparison on gender studies, equal opportunities, the presence of women in history, their representation in society, as well as legal issues, historical, social, economic, political and cultural aspects, inherent to these issues through an interdisciplinary approach between academics and experts articulating comparisons in different scientific and humanistic areas.
Since 2008 she has held teaching positions at the University of Salerno where she has held and continues to hold positions of organizational responsibility (Internationalization Commission, Placement Commission (until 2019 at the Department of Human, Philosophical and Educational Sciences – DisuFF) and Outgoing Guidance Commission which includes the Internships and Placement Commission (from 2019 to date at the Department of Political Science and Communication – DiSPC).

In 2013 she is visiting professor at MSHE Ledoux, Besançon (F) and for the Regional Council of Franche-Comté, coordinates and implements the project: “Genre et développement durable des territoires”.
She is a member of the research group of the University of Salerno in the framework of the Community programme FP6-2004-CITIZENS-5, CAENTI-Cooperation Action project of the European Network of Territorial Intelligence (March 2006-February 2009, funding € 899.390,00). The CAENTI project was a consortium of eight universities (Université de Franche-Comté-France, University of Pécs-Hungary, Universidad de Huelva-Spain, University of Salerno-Italy, Universitatea 1 December 1918-Romania, Universite de Liège-Belgium, University of Thungai-Taiwan, and Znanstvenoraziskovalni Center Slovenske Akademije Znanosti in Umetnosti-Slovenia), and seven territorial actors (Asociacion Comision Catolica Espanola de Migracion and Fundacion Valdocco-Spain, Association des amis et parents de personnes handicapees mentales de Besancon and Reseau des Jardins de Cocagne-France, Baranya Megyei Önkormanyzat-Hungary, and finally Integra Plus and Optima Asbl-Belgium) with the general objective of integrating research projects on “territorial intelligence” instruments giving them a European dimension.
She is part of the European Research Project R&I PEERS (Grant AGREEMENT n. 788171) Piloting Experiences for Improving Gender Equality in Research Organisations) funded by the European Commission in the framework of HORIZON 2020 (1 May 2018-30 April 2022), as part of the activities concerning the Disciplines of the Sociological Area (Sociology of Deviance, Sociology of Law and Social and Gender Policies).
At international level, she is Editor of the scientific series “Social Systems, Cultures and Development”, Gutenberg edizioni (Salerno) and evaluator of the Argentinean publishing house Estudio Sociológicos Editora for the year 2020.
At national level she is a member of the editorial board of the scientific journals “Sicurezza e Scienze Sociali”, directed by Costantino Cipolla, published under the High Patronage of the University of Bologna; of the scientific journal “Culture e Studi del Sociale” - (ISSN 2531- 3975) and of the scientific journal “Res- Ricerca e sviluppo per le politiche sociali” (from 01/2007 to 12/2008).
Over the years she has carried out review and editing activities for the following series and scientific journals: ICSR Mediterranean Knowledge-Working Papers Series (ISSN: 2464-9538), Culture e Studi del Sociale - (ISSN 2531- 3975), and Journal of Mediterranean Knowledge (ISSN 2499- 930X).
She currently carries out research activities (both as a scientific director and as a member of national and international groups) in the field of sociology of law, focusing on the socio-legal aspect of social phenomena. Her research interests range in the fields of legal sociology, deviance, and social change, particularly the study of rights, gender, and sustainable development of the territory.

She is a member of national and international associations of Sociology and criminology such as: the Association Internationale des sociologues de langue française AISLF (section CR03 “Études socio-juridiques et sociologie du droit” and section GT08 “Déviance et criminology”); the Association International de Criminologie and she is a member of AIS (Italian Association of Sociology), section of Sociology of Law.
She is appointed by the Superior Council of the Magistracy as an expert at the Supervisory Court of Salerno for the three-year period 2008/2010 and for the three-year period 2016/2019 to participate in the judging panel of the aforementioned court.
