Objectives
UNIT "PRINCIPLE OF BIOCHEMISTRY"

1) KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING-: THE STUDENT MUST HAVE DEVELOPED THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE BASICS OF THE STRUCTURE AND MOLECULAR ORGANIZATION OF THE MAJOR BIOMOLECULES. KNOWING THE BASICS OF BIOENERGETICS AND THE GENERAL MEANING OF METABOLISM.

2) APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: ABILITY TO USE THE BASICS ACQUIRED, TO KNOW HOW TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE OF BIOCHEMICAL PROCESSES, WITH PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON THE STUDY OF BIOENERGETICS AND METABOLISM IN DIFFERENT ORGANS.

3) COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE STUDENT WILL HAVE THE ABILITY TO FIND AND USE DATA USEFUL FOR SOLUTION OF SPECIFIC QUESTIONS OF THEORETICAL, AND TO ASSESS INDEPENDENTLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED.

4) ABILITY COMMUNICATION : THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO PRESENT THE MAIN BIOCHEMICAL MECHANISMS OF REGULATION AND INTEGRATION OF METABOLISM OF MAN, IN A CLEAR AND SIMPLE, EVEN TO A NON-SPECIALIST PUBLIC.
5) LEARNING SKILLS: THE STUDENT AT THE END WILL HAVE A THEORETICAL BACKGROUND THAT COVERS THE RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHEMICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL THE METABOLISM IN DIFFERENT ORGANS.

UNIT "PLANT GENETICS"

1) KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING- THE COURSE IN PLANT GENETICS IS DESIGNED TO OFFER TO THE STUDENTS BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION OF THE MOLECULAR MECHANISMS CONTROLLING THE MAIN PLANT CELLULAR FUNCTIONS, WITH MAJOR EMPHASIS ON PLANT CELLS, ANALYZING AND DISCUSSING THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF GENETIC INHERITANCE OF TRAITS, AND THEIR APPLICATION TO THE BREEDING OF IMPORTANT TRAITS FOR MEDICINAL PLANTS, INCLUDING ALSO THE GENETIC MECHANISMS CONTROLLING THE BIOSYNTHESIS OF BIOACTIVE PLANT-DERIVED SECONDARY METABOLITES;

2) APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING-THE LECTURES AND THE PRACTICAL HAND-ON LABORATORY WILL GIVE TO THE STUDENTS THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE AND THE PRACTICAL TOOLS NECESSARY TO UNDERSTAND THE GENETIC AND MOLECULAR MECHANISMS CONTROLLING ALL THE STEPS OF THE PLANT GROWTH, DIFFERENTIATION, DEVELOPMENT AND RE PRODUCTION, THE PLANT INTERACTION WITH THE ENVIRONMENT, THEIR ABILITY TO SYNTHESIZE
SECONDARY METABOLITES AND COMPOUNDS OF INTEREST FOR THE HUMAN HEALTH;

3) COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE COURSE WILL GIVE TO THE STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE INTERDISCIPLINARY THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE AND TECHNICAL TOOLS IN THE FIELD OF PLANT GENETICS USEFUL FOR GENETIC CHARACTERIZATION AND IMPROVEMENT OF MEDICINAL PLANTS, NECESSARY FOR ENTERING IN THE MARKET OF THE PRODUCTION AND QUALITY CONTROL OF MEDICINAL PLANTS AND THEIR DERIVATES;
4) ABILITY COMMUNICATION: STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO DISCUSS, COMPARE AND ADDRESS IN AN AUTONOMOUS WAY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS OF PLANT GENETICS APPLIED TO MEDICINAL PLANTS AND MORE BROADLY WILL ACQUIRES KNOWLEDGE BY HIS OR HER OWN EFFORTS AND DEVELOPS THE ABILITY FOR INQUIRY AND CRITICAL EVALUATION OF QUESTIONS, PROBLEMS AND SUGGEST RELATIVE SOLUTIONS, ALSO THROUGH A CONTINUOS DISCUSSION WITH OTHER STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERTS IN THE FIELD OF MEDICINAL PLANTS AND DERIVED HEALTH PROMOTING PRODUCTS.
